Produced in April 1993 in Italy, this car arrived on June 15, 1993 at the Port of Newark, New Jersey and was delivered to the W. C. Motor Co., Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri on June 21, 1993. It came standard with the following equipment – 2.0L DOHC four-cylinder engine with Bosch Motronic multi-point fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission, driver’s side airbag, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, AM/FM stereo with cassette, power antenna, leather reclining seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, dual power outside mirrors, remote locking decklid and fuel filler door releases, soft cloth convertible top, P195/60HR15 tires and 15-inch light alloy wheels. An OEM compact disc player with 12-disc changer (in trunk) was the only option.
Dressed in its original Arctic White paint with a black pinstripe, the car’s original paint in very good condition after being garaged for most of the past 13 years. The original black cloth folding top is in similar fine condition. The car’s power antenna is inoperable but the glass panels and vehicle lights are in great shape, as are the body-color bumpers and the car’s body panels. Car rolls on 195/60R15 tires with the factory alloy wheels. A battery disconnect key was installed in 2005 to prevent non-starting situations.
Inside, the black leather bucket seats are in excellent and un-restored condition, as is the matching carpet. The instrument panel is crack-free and still looks new. The four-spoke steering wheel with driver’s airbag is in fine order, as are the door panels, mirrors, center console and gear shift lever. The trunk and fuel filler door release levers are on the driver’s side door jamb. Completing the interior is a Sony AM/FM stereo with CD player and detachable faceplate (in glovebox). The original CD changer is still in the trunk but is disconnected.

Maintenance performed during this time included an OLF, new battery and cables and battery disconnect key installed on August 10, 2005 at 17,567 miles; balance all four tires on car in November 2012 with ~18,3xx miles on car, repaired windshield divot on December 3, 2012; new battery on March 17, 2015 and OLF on September 26, 2016. The original owner put 13,875 miles on the car over a 13-year period.
In 1990, the primary mechanical change was that the Spider received Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection with an electric fan. Externally, the Spider lost its front under-bumper and rear trunk-lid spoilers and picked up 164-style rear lights stretching across the width of the car as well as plastic bumpers the same color as the car. This also marked the first generation of this car with automatic transmission, as well as on-board diagnostics capabilities.
In North America, the styling changes did not appear until the 1991 model year. Power steering, larger knee bolsters and a driver-side airbag also appeared as standard for North American market Spiders, which were available in two configurations: Spider and Spider Veloce. Primary differences were in standard equipment: the Veloce substituted leather seats for the base model’s vinyl; 15″ alloy wheels were one size up from the standard steel wheels with hubcaps; and air-conditioning and a cloth top were standard. Production of the original Spider ended in 1993.
