1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super s/n AR859479 engine no. AR00526 47636 Verde Muschio with Tan Interior

Descended from the Turismo Internazionale class of Italian saloon car racing the Giulia Super and its homologated racing variant the Super Ti are among the earliest sport sedans and are the distant ancestors of today’s widely available “hot hatches”. The technical specification of the Giulia Super was impressive with disc brakes the larger 1600cc (rather than 1300cc) dual overhead cam powerplant with twin Webers 5-speed transmission and a wonderful chassis that allowed the family man tremendous entertainment while still appearing to be a responsible patriarch an unusually rare combination in the period. As a result of their entertaining driving experience and impressive mechanical specification the cars are sought after today by enthusiasts who now regard an entertaining performance sedan as commonplace but may not appreciate how special it was to find such a car in the 1960s.

This particular car has been recently restored by its collector owner including complete engine rebuild approximately 500 miles ago. The engine rebuild was performed by Santo’s Italian Car Service and they also replaced the shock absorbers. The restoration also included the cosmetic aspects of the car.

It is cosmetically excellent with attractive paint performed to very nice standards. There are minor blemishes only in the form of one door edge chip and a few subtle superficial issues. The underside of the body appears to be free of rust but shows evidence of repairs in the past. The body is straight with excellent door fit. The hood sits a bit proud at the trailing edge on one side. The brightwork is mostly excellent including the bumpers grille and door handles aside from a few small dimples. The front windscreen trim has some scratches. The glass and lights are generally excellent though there is some wear to the front windscreen. The car sits on very cool Cromodora alloy wheels.

The interior was also very nicely restored with new upholstery carpets and redone dash. The seat and door panel upholstery is excellent with very fine quality workmanship throughout and virtually no wear. The carpets are high quality and aside from a few small stains are excellent. The dashboard wood is in beautiful condition and the dashboard pad was also nicely restored. The instruments are exceptionally nice and appear to have been recently restored as well. The switches and controls are in very good condition and appear unrestored. The headliner and visors are excellent while the grab handles rear view mirror and dome lights appear to be unrestored and do show some age. The steering wheel is excellent aside from a hairline crack in the plastic trim surrounding the horn button.

The engine compartment is tidy and attractive but not spotless. The painted areas are very nice and appear freshly redone as do other aspects such as the radiator. The engine itself is fairly clean but not spotless and is unmodified with no incorrect finishes. The car has twin Webers with complete intake system including cast airbox trunking and cylindrical air filter housing. The trunk has been restored with new paint and carpet to match the interior. The jack is also present.

The car runs and drives well. The engine starts easily and runs well with good carburetion and an even-tempered tractable character. The clutch is progressive and positive and the gearbox excellent with great synchromesh. The suspension is tight but not excessively harsh and the steering is precise and communicative. The brakes have very good bite.

This is a great opportunity to acquire a very nicely restored Giulia Super that is very attractive and generally correct. Finished in great colors this particular car is quite a bit nicer than is typical for these cars given how inexpensive they were for so many years making this particularly rare find.
