1979 American Motors Spirit AMX. SE car born with a 304, has had 360 installed many years ago from mid-70's AMC full size vehicle working through Chrysler 727 torque flight and AMC 3:15 limited slip rear end. PS, PB, factory a/c; have condenser - not working currently. Previous owner had wheel flares and air dam off; I had them put back on best that could be done for car shows. They still need attention. Small dent in passenger door as mentioned above caused by ME!! New Edelbrock carb has just 50 miles on it as well as near brand new tires. Mileage of 152k probably accurate. Front seats from Spirit D/L. Original seats in plastic bags. No rips in upholstery; wear along trim of door panel near window glass. Some age related broken plastic at driver seat adjuster cover and holders of seat belt buckles; scratches in hatch on plastic areas covering rear tires. Considering 37 years old, this car has been taken care of.
Purchased from AMO owners living in GA, this SE car was a barn find about 1986 and owned by couple for 29 years. I'm an AMO member as well and purchased last year on impulse trying to relive an area of my youth. I had ordered this model with 304 4sp in Oct 1978 in black; never liked the black but liked the car. Mine was traded off about 1986 with low miles but needing valve job?. I've not driven this vehicle more than 100 miles since acquiring it. I have attended a couple of local car shows and it has been garage stored during my ownership and probably during most of the time w/previous owner. You will surely be the only one in town with a car like this!! As I approach 70 next month, I'm reevaluated my transportation needs as it were and decided that I've enjoyed ownership but wish to pass this unusual model on. Advertised locally and reserve the right to discontinue listing if sold.
Vehicle located within 6 miles of Flying J @Exit 11 off I-44/I-49 or 10 miles from Love's, Petro, etc. @ Exit 4, I-44.
On Jul-30-16 at 07:33:50 PDT, seller added the following information:This car comes with brand new a/c compressor and cast aluminum mounting bracket. The previous owner, as may be noted, did a slight front end "tuck" for a cleaner look. I'm neutral on it. It looks fine to me and I remember some of those "spaces" between bumper and grille didn't look well after a few years. The previous long time owner did not have the front dam nor wheelsurround trim installed. They do need further rehab but a local body shop/dealer I trade with was able to install best they could for auto show. I personally like it but recall on my own 79 that the front air dam was a pain! I failed to mention that this is a dual exhaust car - system in nice shape as well. There was repainting of original color several years ago and the repaint did not include door jambs orengine compartment. The hood had been replaced as limb of pine fell on it several years back. Underside of hood is not repainted. The only minor rust area I saw was a small area on left side lip area of hatch. It has newer hatch struts. I hope this addition will answer some ?'s I failed to address in original description. I will try to post pic of compressor/bracket as well. Amongst the items I rec'd with car (orig. seats which I've never looked at) is a box containing carpeting as well. It's a slightly darker shade.
