Description

FOR 1971 AMC PRODUCED 8,600 HORNET 2-DOOR SST COUPES. NEXT TO THE FAMED SC 360 COUPES, WITH 784 PRODUCED, THIS ONE IS THE SECOND LOWEST NUMBERS PRODUCED THAT YEAR. LOW NUMBERS INDEED.

MY 1971 HORNET CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH OPTIONAL AUTOMATIC, POWER STEERING, AM RADIO, AIR CONDITIONING AND ALL THE SST TRIM COMPLETE WITH POP OUT QUARTER WINDOWS AS OPPOSED TO THE FIXED ONES ON THE BASE HORNETS. THE COLOR IS MEADOW GREEN CODE A8 WITH OPTIONAL GREEN CLOTH AND VINYL INTERIOR AND BIG 258 CUBIC INCH SIX CYLINDER. MY UNDERSTANDING IS I AM THE 4TH OWNER. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OWNER # 2 AND #3 WHOM I PURCHASED THE HORNET FROM. IT WAS ORIGINALLY FROM THE NEW JERSEY AREA AND THEN WENT TO PENNSYLVANIA WITH THE 3RD OWNER. IT IS NOW IN TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA.

THIS HORNET RETAINS ABOUT 95%+ OF ITS ORIGINAL LACQUERPAINT WHICH STILL HAS A NICE OVERALL SHINE. I AM VERY PARTICULAR WHEN IT COMES TO PAINT AND WOULD GIVE THIS CAR A 7 OUT OF 10 JUST BECAUSE IT ISSO NICE FOR ITS AGE OF 46 YEARS. SOME MIGHT THINK IT IS AN 8 OR BETTER GIVEN THE CONDITION AND THE AGE OF THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN PICS OF THE FEW SCRATCHES AND MINOR DENTS ON THE CAR. AMAZINGLY THIS ONE HAS SURVIVED WITH VERY FEW BLEMISHES. IT HAS SOME AGE CHARACTER AND IS CERTAINLY TOO NICE TO PAINT. THEREFORE I ADDED THE SC 360 STRIPE AND WAS ON MY WAY TO MAKING IT AN SC 360 TRUBUTE JUST THE WAY IT IS. THE SECOND OWNER TOUCHED UP THE PAINT CHIPS ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD AND THIN PAINT ON THE ROOF. IT IS NOT A PERFECT MATCH BUT IS HARDLY NOTICEABLE IN MOST LIGHT CONDITIONS. THE ROOF YOU ONLY NOTICEIF YOU ARE ABOVE THE CAR LOOKING DOWN. SEE PICS OF THAT AS WELL. THERE ARE A FEW SMALL DINGS (VERY MINOR THAT WILL NOT PICK UP IN PICTURES) AND A COUPLE SURFACE RUST SPOTS BUT ABSOLUTELY NOTHING MAJOR THAT WOULD NEED ATTENTION. IT IS ALL PART OF THE AGING PROCESS AND THIS ONE HAS HELD UP EXTREMELY WELL. AS WITH ALL HORNETS THEY USUALLY HAD A ROTTED OUT BATTERY TRAY AND A HOLE UNDER THE TRAY ON THE INNER FENDER. MINE HAD A SMALL HOLE FROM BATTERY ACID SO I HAD IT REPAIRED AND A RESTORED TRAY PUT IN. THAT WAS THE ONLY RUST ISSUE IN THE CAR. THE TOP OF THE DRIVERS FENDER NEXT TO BATTERY AREA HAS A FEW BLWMISHES THAT HAVE BEEN TOUCHED UP. I BELIEVE THAT ACID MAY HAVE DROPPED ON THE FENDER WHEN BEING REMOVED OVER THE YEARS AND ATE SMAL SPOTS IN THE PAINT. THIS IS NOT OVERLY NOTICEABLE. (SEE PICTURE) OVERALL THE PAINT AND BODY IS GREAT FOR ITS AGE.

UNDERNEATH THIS CAR IS ALSO VERY DRY AND SOLID AND RUST FREE AS WELL. I TOOK A COUPLE PICS OF THE ROCKERS, UNDER THE DRIVER'S DOOR AND THE REAR TANK AREA AS WELL AS THE REAR QUARTERS SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT I MEAN. THE TRUNK IS ALSO VERY SOLID AND RUST FREE. IT DOES HAVE MINOR SURFACE RUST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE SMALL AMOUNTS OF WATER HAVE GOTTEN IN WHEN THE CAR IS WASHED BUT IS MINOR AS WELL. FOR A CAR OF THIS AGE IT IS EXCELLENT. PROBABLY A TRIBUTE TO THE CAR BEING GARAGED ALOT OF ITS LIFE AND DEFINITELY IN THE LAST 10+ YEARS ACCORDING TO THE TWO PREVIOUS OWNERS AS WELL AS MYSELF.

THE OPTIONAL 258 "BIG 6" RUNS SMOOTH AND STRONG. A NEW OLD STOCK (NOS) CARBURETOR WAS ADDED BYTHE PREVIOUS OWNER AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING. WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING YOU CAN BARELY HEAR IT RUN. IT IS SURPRISING HOW WELL THIS MOTOR PICKS UP SPEED IN THIS SMALL HORNET. AS PART OF MAKING IT A SC 360 TRIBUTE I PURCHASED A REBUILT AMC 360 4 BARREL ENGINE FOR IT. SEE THE PICTURE. I PURCHASED IT FROM A LOCAL, WELL RESPECTED AMC GUY WHO SAID IT IS A LITTLE STRONGER THAN STOCK WITH ABOUT 300 HP BUT NOT TOO AGRESSIVE, JUST A NICE STRONG SMOOTH V8 MOTOR. I WILL LET THE MOTOR GO TO THE BUYER FOR $3,000.00 IF THEY ARE INTERESTED. NO, I WILL NOT SELL THE ENGINE ALONE FOR THAT PRICE AS I HAVE MORE INTO IT THAN WHAT I WOULD SELL IT FOR TO THE NEW BUYER.

THE GRILLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO CRACKS OR MISSING PIECES. THE TAIL LIGHTS ARE EXCELLENT AS WELL. THE BUMPERS ARE SHOWING SOME PATINA BUT WITH A GOOD POLISHI BELIEVE THEY WILL SHINE UP NICELY AND CAN BE USED THAT WAY FOR SOME TIME TO COME. OVERALL THEY AREN'T THAT BAD AND ARE VERY PRESENTABLE. THE REMAINING STAINLESS STEEL TRIM IS IN VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT CONDITION. ON THE PASSENGER SWING OUT REARQUARTER WINDOW THE CHROME CAP FOR THE SCREW IS MISSING. ANOTHER HARD TO SEE ITEM UNLESS YOU LOOK CLOSELY. THE ORIGINAL DOG DISH HUB CAPS ARE IN VERY NICE CONDITION.

THE INTERIOR RETAINS ALL THE ORIGINAL SEAT COVERS. THE DRIVERS SEAT HAD NOS SEAT MATERIAL ADDED TO REPLACE THE WORN LOWER COVER AND LOOKS EXCELLENT. SOME NOS MATERIAL WILL COME WITH CAR. THE ORIGINAL DASH PAD AND A/C DASH COMPONENTS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE INTERIOR PANELS ARE VERY NICE AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL HEADLINER. THE GLASS IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION AS WELL.

THE ENGINE BAY IS IN VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. THE INNER APRON/FENDERWELL AREA WHERE THE HINGES ARE ATTACHED IS IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE HORNET ALSO RETAINS IT ORIGINAL NUMBERED RADIATOR. THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPONENTS ARE ALL THERE AND APPEAR TO RUN AS THEY SHOULD BUT I HAVE NEVER USED IT AS I HAVE NOT HAD A REASON TO YET. THE HEATER IS WARM FOR COLDER DAYS.

AS PART OF MAKING THE SC 360 TRIBUTE I PURCHASED ONE OF EDDIE STAKES'(PLANETHOUSTONAMX)REPRODUCTION SC 360 HOOD SCOOPS (NOTE SCOOP IS JUST SITTING ON HOOD IT IS NOT AFFIXED YET). I ALSO HAVE A SC 360 GLOVE BOX DOOR EMBLEM (SEE PICTURE) FOR THAT COMPLETE AUTHENTIC LOOK. I WILL ALSO THROW IN AN AMC 20 V8 REAR END (STRONGER THAN THE 6 CYLINDER REAR) AS WELL AS A NOS V8 CROSS MEMBER TO DO THE V8 CONVERSION. ACCORDING TO EDDIE THE A8 MEADOW GREEN WAS ONE OF THE RAREST SC 360 COLORS SO WHEN THIS ONE IS ALL COMPLETE IT SHOULD DRAW LOTS OF ATTENTION OR YOU CAN DRIVE IT AS IT IS AND ENJOY IT.

SINCE I HAVE HAD THE HORNET I HAVE ADDED A NEW BATTERY AND NEWER, BIGGER RAISED WHITE LETTER TIRES TO GIVE IT THAT MUSCLE LOOK AND FOR DRIVABILITY. I HAD THE BRAKES BLED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL IS FIRM AND THE CAR STOPS NO PROBLEM BUT THE BRAKES WILL NEED TO BE INSPECTED BEFORE DRIVING THE CAR ANY GREAT DISTANCE. (EXPECTED WITH A CAR THAT HAS SAT AS MUCH AS IT HAS OVER THE YEARS).

THE ODOMETER SHOWS 79,892 MILES AND GIVEN THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE CAR I BELIEVE TO BE TRUE BUT FEEL THIS CAR FEELS TIGHTER AND LOOKS BETTER THAN MOST 46 YEAR OLD CARS WITH THAT MILEAGE. IF YOU ARE LOCAL I ENCOURAGE YOU COME TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR. IF NOT, ASK ANY QUESTIONS AND I WILL DO MY BEST TO ANSWER THEM. I HAVE MANY MORE PICS THAN I COULD PUT UP ON THE LISTING SO WOULD BE GLAD TO SEND THEM ALONG TO INTERESTED BIDDERS AS I HAVE TIME. I HAVE BEEN AS THOROUGH AS I COULD BE HOWEVER I MAY HAVE FORGOTTEN SOME DETAIL. IF I THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE I WILL ADD IT TO THE LISTING. PLEASE CALL OR TEXT ME AT 647-828-1374.

FOR USA BIDDERS ISOLD A CAR TO A USA RESIDENT LAST YEAR SO IAM FAMILIAR WITH THE PROCESS. TO BUYERS IN MICHIGAN, NEW YORK, PENNSYLVANIA, MASSACHUSETTS, NEW JERSEY AND OHIO I CAN DELIVER THE CAR TO YOU PERSONALLY FOR $500.00 UP TO AN 8 HOUR DRIVE FROM ME. A BROKER TO CLEAR THE CAR THROUGH CUSTOMS WILL COST YOU ROUGHLY $350.00 AND IS A FAIRLY EASY PROCESS . I CAN ASSIST YOU WITH THAT PROCESS. THERE IS A $10.75 CHARGE AT CUSTOMS FOR EACH VEHICLES IMPORTED WHEN YOU CROSS THROUGH THE BORDER.
