Thanks for looking at my 1968 AMC Ambassador SST. Please look below for the 80 or so photos I have posted. This is a pretty rare car loaded with equipment and in well preserved condition. "It looks sort of like a Ford Fairlane, r....sort of like a Pontiac Lemans...by the way what is that?" - I have gotten those comments at car events when people are not quite sure what this car is!. This was AMC's top of the line full size car for '68. if you want something different, ere it is.
Nicely equipped with the SST package, 343V8, utomatic Transmission, old working factory air conditioning, ower steering, ilt steering wheel, ully reclining seats, ushbutton AM radio with rear speaker and bumper guards.
Take a look at the photos of the paperwork. It was sold new at Tom Smith Rambler in St. Louis to Mr. Theodore Kuegele in April, 968 (see the photo of the warranty book showing the sale) and the original owner's family kept the car until the passing of Mr. Kuegele's wife in 2014. So it was in one family all of those years. The car went through a dealer's hands in between for a short time before my purchase, o I am basically the second owner. As can be seen, he Tom Smith Rambler insignia is still on the back of the car. The odometer reads 79,000 miles but was sold to me from Missouri which is a mileage exempt state for vehicles over ten years old, o I cannot prove the mileage. However there is little doubt in my mind about whether the mileage is correct. This is a nice survivor all the way around
Body and paint - The car is solid as can be. It appears to me that the car had one nice, ood quality repaint many years ago, ut the car appears to be entirely original cosmetically everywhere else. Looks like the jambs still have original paint. The paint has nice depth and shine and looks great. There are a few marks on the paint here and there, ut overall very good. The paint on the roof appears to be original. There is a crease in the lower quarter that looks like its been there a long time as can be seen in the photos. Overall, ooks very good and a car to be proud of.
Interior - The completely original interior is really cool with the bright pattern in the material and the RECLINING SEATS! They are just cool. Lift up AC vent in the dash is nifty too. Dash is nice, oor panels, eadliner, tc all good. The original carpet is even in nice shape. The seat has a spot down low where the piping has come apart and the garnish moldings on the lower seat are cracked (they all do this when equipped with the reclining seats from what I have seen). Shoulder belts that hook into the front seat belts were added at some point before my purchase.
Chrome - All very nice and bright.
AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I SPENT $5000 ON IT doing things to ensure the car's reliability, s it looked to me that it had been sitting for some time (I have receipts for this work) - rebuilt carburetor, hanged the tires, uffler, adiator and heater hoses, elts, hermostat, ater pump, ebuilt the heater control valve, lushed the cooling system, nstalled a new (not rebuilt) AC compressor and serviced the AC, ew transmission pan gasket, hree new brake hoses, wheel cylinders (master cylinder appeared to have been recently replaced before I got the car), une up, nd four shocks as well as some other smaller items. The car runs and drives very nicely with cold air conditioning. Radio, eater, orn, teering, tc. all work nicely. The directional switch works OK but there is a bit of play in the lever and it needs a jiggle to cancel and reset the brake lights properly sometimes. Bottom line is hop in and enjoy, ts ready to drive in my opinion short trips or long, nd I have done so.
I am a long time collector especially of original and unrestored cars. The car is titled in my name. I am happy to answer your questions 201-406-4423. Check out 14 years of feedback on Ebay. When I sell one of my collector cars I want to be happy and want you to be happy. I have made more than one friend out of a stranger over the years as a result of selling them one of my cars, think that's no accident.
