Very nice driver-quality Austin Healey 3000 MK II. This is a great car for you if you prefer reliable and affordable hobby cars that you can enjoy and drive on the weekend without major expenses or worry. I searched for two or three years before finding this one and have since enjoyed it for about a decade.
These are some things specific to this A-H that might be of interest to you:
- I bought this car in Arizona and it has always been there with me. I was told by the previous owner that it has only ever been in either California or Arizona. Its condition supports that.
- You can drive and enjoy it as is with only regular maintenance. If you are ambitious, it should be an easy candidate for restoration.
- The interior appears original, but the body has been painted in the past. Upon close inspection and in certain light, the red paint in the back looks a shade different from the front. I tried to show that in the photos. There are also some chips in the paint along the lower edges of the body, particularly in the rear as shown in photos.
- It has the 4 speed + electronic overdrive transmission; it works great, although it will occasionally pop from second gear to neutral if in 2nd gear while going downhill.
- I replaced the tires, rubber suspension bushings, brake master cylinder, and performed routine maintenance. This A-H never let me down.
- The driver's seat slide was adjusted prior to my ownership for tall drivers - the previous owner and I both fit that category.
- The speedometer needle changes with changing speed, but seems to read values more consistent with km/h than mph. All other gauges appear to work correctly. Headlamps and brake lights work, but the turn signals do not. I've never checked into that, so it might just be a bulb issue.
- The front tire on the driver's side will lose about 5 psi over a few weeks. It's been like that for a few years and I just pump it up before I take it out for a drive.
- As you might expect for a vintage British car, it does leak some fluids after use. I've only used it to drive to church and around town on weekends. It has always been stored in my garage.
- Unlike earlier A-H's, this model has the fixed convertible top and roll-up windows. Those are nice features.
A move has triggered me to consider selling at this time. Otherwise I'd hold onto this A-H, as I doubt I would find another one like it.
