Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this desirable last year production 1967 BJ-8 convertible in arguably the best colors. This car was just purchased out of a collection back East. The previous owner spent over $10,000 having the engine properly rebuilt, and purchasing a new battery, fuel pump, and aluminum gas tank. His plan was then to perform a "driving restoration" but couldn't find the time to do it.
This car has a decently straight body with an older repaint. At one time in it's life, the rear fenders were replaced with a pair of fiberglass items, but a pair of original steel ones are provided (picture) with the car. The front shroud is excellent with perfect grille and hood fit. There is some rust bubbling around the LH headlamp fender area. There has been some previous rocker, trunk floor, and floor repairs of mixed quality. There is some small rust through on the rear of RH floor, but patchable (picture). At one point, the rear RH chassis leg from the axle rearwards had some strengthening/reinforcing (picture). The underside was undercoated for protection.
The car starts on the button and runs very well with the exhaust in excellent, newer condition. The engine was rebuilt and exhibits perfect behavior: no smoke or noises, perfect oil pressure(55-60psi), revs whisper smooth and hard. The gearbox is excellent with a great working overdrive and silent first gear, but has a weakish 4th syncro. The car runs and drives well, with good steering and brakes and can be currently used as a driver.
The car's interior trim is highly original and in good usable condition with a careful clean/detail. Carpets are incorrect and could use replacing. The car's black softtop is very nice and serviceable with a slightly browning rear plastic window. There is also the original navy blue Everflex top boot and tonneau that can be revived.
Overall, a good driving car that can be used as is or improved later down the road. It is also a candidate for a full restoration but with the bonus of it's rebuilt engine, newer exhaust, gas tank, etc.
