*Note: I have been asked if the hood is not straight as it appears in some of the pictures. The hood is straight and latches as it should to lay flat. It just seems I did not have it latched when I took some of the pictures.
The time has come for me to sell my 1950 Bentley project. This car was sitting in a restaurant south of St. Louis for some time before I purchased her and started bringing her back to life. At some point in the car's history, he original Bentley drivetrain was replaced with that of a Chevy 6. The interior was also redone in a suede-like diamond-tuck pattern. From the pictures, ou will see that the front passenger seat faces the rear. The previous owner I purchased the car from said this was done so the passenger could face the folks in the rear while they were all chauffeured around. I'm not a huge fan of the setup. A center console type addition with a champagne bucket was also added when the interior was redone. It would not be difficult to remove the center console and turn the seat around to have a more normal interior layout.
The car was also repainted and I would call it a 10-15 foot paint job. The chrome is in good condition all around the car. The body is free of dents and does not appear to have had any accidents. White wall tires are old and I would not take them up to highway speeds.
Although it is a project, t does not need much to be a driving car. The engine starts right up and runs very smooth. The automatic transmission shifts through the gears without problem. A complete go-through of the brakes are the main attention item needed for the car to be drivable. This Bentley does not have the ultra-complicated and expensive to maintain self-leveling braking system of the later Bentleys. Because the car was sitting, am currently running the car of an electric fuel pump and gas can. The next owner will want to drop the gas tank for cleaning and flush the lines to prevent any gunk or bad gas from going through the carb. The other needs are more cleaning and organizing in nature. As you can see from the pictures, he engine bay needs a thorough cleaning and the wiring for the gauges/under dash should be organized/tied-up.
The interior is in fair condition. The diamond-tuck upholstery looks dated to me but is in good condition. The original burl walnut is still there and is rough in places. Please see pictures for the condition of the dash wood.
Overall, he car would eventually make a nice driver Bentley for someone that wants the look of an old Bentley saloon without the potential maintenance cost of the original Bentley engine and transmission. With a good cleaning and sorting, he interior and paint would be presentable. The car will never be a concourse candidate but would be an interesting car that is different from what you usually see at the local car shows.
Car is located in Tulsa, K. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions. I have a clear title in my name and am not looking for any trades. I am asking for a $500 non-refundable deposit at auction end. I am new to eBay as you can see from my feedback but would be happy to give you my cell if you would like to come see the car for yourself in person. I have tried to represent the car both good and bad.
