Let me start off by saying that this is the 5th E30 M3 that has been in the family and one of my dream cars growing up. I have researched for over 10 years of being on the forums all about these cars. I hope to answer all questions in this description but I have NO problem spending some time on the phone explaining and answering any unanswered questions. I am the owner who started and completed this overhaul so I would be glad to answer ANY question. This car was purchased by myself from an elderly gentleman who lived in Clearwater. FL and unfortunately succumbed to cancer shortly after I purchased it. I will make this story brief by just saying that due to me purchasing the car sight unseen and taking a dying mans word about everything and how "perfect this car was". I was pretty much deceived as I will put it. Being that I knew a lot about these cars. I began to look it over the day it arrived. I had been told that the car had just had a complete re-spray a year before my purchase and that the car was "100% RUST FREE". Needless to say. It was painted at a MACCO down in Clearwater where even the vehicle's window trim had been painted over. Not only did this vehicle receive a poor paint/masking job. but they had painted over the surface rust which was now starting to show. Long story short. I was back to square one of a complete restoration. The restoration progress started basically by ordering and collecting many parts for the first year. I became a regular at the local BMW dealership (JMK BMW) and they now all know me by first. middle. last name and even maybe my credit card number. I started with majority of the parts being ordered for the engine bay. The engine was removed along with all the sound and heat insulation. (all replaced with NEW OEM parts) The engine bay was then repainted with the OEM diamantschwarsz paint. While the engine was out. it was torn down for a complete exterior refresh. All the brackets. covers. pans. throttle bodies. belts. wires. gaskets housings and bolts were either galvanized. polished. powder coated. or replaced. While the engine was out. the rust in the common areas was cut out and replaced. The window cowl where they usually rust near the wipers was replaced with a brand new OEM part. The floor board under the pedals was also cut and replaced with a donor cars part that was cut out. After all that was complete and repainted. the sub-frame was powder coated. sway bars installed. suspension replaced. and the engine was then put back along with the custom full stainless steel dual 2 1/4" exhaust that is connected using stainless steel V bands. Now that the vehicles engine bay/engine was restored. it was time to move on to the biggest decision I had to make. I had since owned 2 prior E30 M3's to this car and I was starting to get tired of having a boring M3. I decided that I would be widening the rear arches to match the curves of the front fenders (if you ever noticed the rear quarters are flat while the front fenders are round) just that I would have them come out 1 1/2" more than OEM. I basically wanted to widen it but I wanted it to look like as if BMW would have done it. Anyone who has seen this car in person and I mentioned that too. states that It totally looks as if BMW should have done it this way originally. I ordered the BBS RS wheels with 3" lips up front and 4" lips in the rears. I purchased these wheels specifically because I thought they were the perfect time period wheels. Once the wheels arrived. it was time to get started on the body work. The widening of the rear quarters was completed by a metal fabricator who would work on it after his full time job for as an Aston Martin metal fabricator/repair man. This took up most of the restoration which then gave me the time needed to save up and move on to the interior. While the vehicle was in for the complete body overhaul. I was able to send the interior out for refinishing. At this point. I again decided to go a little crazy while still keeping originality to the vehicle. I chose a stock E30 M3 color(Cardinal Red) as my interior but I chose to wrap the dashboard. the headliner. A. . . Pillars. rear deck. and the EVO steering wheel in either Cardinal Red leather or suede to mimic a Porsche theme. I also decided that I would go with a Pre 1990 M3 theme and use a Cardinal Red OEM carpet( all post 90 M3’s with Cardinal interior used the Anthrazite carpets). I know I said I would keep this short but once I started to write this I just caught myself explaining this stressful event of my life in building the car of my dreams. Unfortunately priorities change and we must choose to make a decision that we want. but in fact have too. The new owner of this vehicle will not be disappointed as he will be enjoying what majority of people are calling. “The sickest e30 M3 ever”. Anyone interested in purchasing this vehicle is more than welcome to come see it and ask as many questions as they would like over a few beers. Thanks and enjoy.
