What a beautiful piece of automotive history! This 1954 Buick Skylark is unrestored and runs and drives great! In fact, t has been one of my daily drivers since I purchased it in 2004. If you’re looking at this listing, ou are probably already aware of the low production volume of the Series 100 Skylark in 1954. Only 834 were made, nd all were fitted with the 322 cubic inch Nailhead V-8 and a Dynaflow 2-speed automatic transmission. Sitting on a smaller frame than the previous year, he 1954 Skylark has greater performance and fantastic proportions. It is truly an incredible vehicle and a great part of the history of the American automobile.
The history of my car was told to me by the original owner. He told me that his father was a Buick dealer in Oregon, nd that his father gave him the car when it was new as a birthday gift. He owned the car until I purchased it from him through an agent. During his ownership he made several era appropriate modifications to the car that, n my opinion, dd to the magnificence of this car. For example, he door panels are trim have some extra chrome that we believe may be from a 1955 Buick Roadmaster. The front seat has original Skylark trim and a six-way power seat. The single exhaust has been converted to dual exhaust pipes. The mesh headlight covers are period after-market for the car, s are the tensioner bars and chrome valve covers under the hood. The original owner told me that these modifications were all made when the car was new, n his father’s Buick dealership shop. I believe these changes, long with the electric fuel pump I had installed are the only non-original items on the car. Most of these alterations are cosmetic in nature and could easily be returned to factory if you decided to do so. I personally like the changes and believe that it is even more impressive than the factory Skylarks I have seen. (That is just my opinion of course!)
I do not have exact details but at some point the vehicle had some minor body repair and some portions of the body were resprayed with the correct shade of Matador Red paint. The body is very solid, ut the paint is older and has begun to crack and chip in a few places. The Helsinki Red leather on the seats and door panels is original and shows its age, specially on the front bench seat.
The engine and transmission work great, nd the car is extremely reliable. I have, n occasion, et it sit for a few weeks at a time and it fires up with little effort and cruises down the road magnificently. I have not made any mechanical changes to the car during my ownership other than the installation of the fuel pump I mentioned earlier and have worked hard to maintain the originality of the car in regard to its mechanicals.
Whether you are looking to find a great driver or a restoration project, his vehicle is a great choice. All of the trim is complete on the car, o restoration would be much easier than other projects I have seen recently. Additionally, t is largely original and already runs and drives great, o you could continue to enjoy it, s I have done. I have been happy to drive it in its current condition almost daily for over a decade now.
This is a fantastic vehicle that I will be happy to keep if the highest bidder does not meet my reserve. My son, ohn, s selling the vehicle on my behalf. Please contact him with any questions you may have. (417) 834 6613 I have attempted to be completely honest regarding the condition and history of the vehicle so that you may bid with confidence.
