Description

Hello and thank you for viewing this auction.I hope this finds you in great health and good spirits. I had no idea when and if the day would ever come that I would sell this 1955 Buick. I have owned this car for 27 years. It is the longest commitment I have had to any one thing or even person. I bought this car in 1989 when I was 15 years old. I grew up in Aurora, ebraska.(pop3,000) The car was spotted in Grand Island which was the "big city". Then it was about 40,000 people approx. The car was sitting outside at a gas station when I noticed it. I had to ask my mom to stop at this station so I could get a look at it. It was very striking to me and I hadn't seen a triple tone paint version up to that point. This of course was before the internet. I went inside and asked who owned the car and if it was for sale. The didn't know if it was for sale but said it had just had some work done to it and it belonged to the man who owned the local A&W Root beer drive in. They gave me his phone number and I called him when I returned home. The man said he was the second owner of the car. The original owner was from Omaha Nebraska and was a professor at the Omaha campus of theUniversity of Nebraska. The car had been in storage since the second owner bought which was around 1977. I asked him what he planned to do with the car. He said he had pulled it out ofstorageto get it ready for his daughter who was turning 16. I said "you can't let a girlhave this for her first carbecause she will wreck it!"He then said "well how old are you!?" I thought about lying then I told him I was 15 but that I had driven many old cars on the farm. He asked me if I could even afford the car. I said I could pay it off if he could give me a year to do so. He agreed and I was able to purchase the car in exactly one year from when I started paying on it.
As I write this the car has 39,444 miles on it. I have put less than 5,000 miles on it since I bought it. I did drive it from Nebraska to Los Angeles and that trip it averaged 19.2 miles per gallon on the interstate. I had the heads switched over to run on unleaded. Before coming to Nebraska I had the engine overhauled and the transmission rebuilt for the trip. The mechanics said the car looked to have original mileage but I have no way to prove this and make no claims. I had the car repainted over 15 years ago. The drivers side seat has tears in it and one could either leave it or replace it. The wide white wall tires are radials. It has power steering, ower brakes and a dealer installed A/C unit under the dash. The Sonomatic radio works well andsounds lovely. I had several thousands of dollars spent on restoring the brakes, uspension and engine recently. The car is not perfect butneeds nothing major. It had thrown a rod but now it drives extremely well. It is a massive car. I have owned many old cars and the 55 Buick is a beast make no mistake - it is huge and you must have some skill to be able to drive old cars like this.

Please feel free to come check the car out if you are local and ask questions. Thanks for stopping by and remember "When Better Cars Are Built...Buick Will Build Them".
