For sale in our Chicago showroom is one very special 1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport Convertible. By 1965 the American auto industry had begun to recognize the desire for smaller and lighter weight cars that still packed quite a punch under the hood. The Skylark model was already synonymous with style and performance so it was probably a natural choice for the Gran Sport option.
This fine example is an original mile car showing just 91,206 miles on the clock and features all numbers matching driveline components. One thing that is very impressive about this low production example is the fine restoration work done to bring this car back to life. The original shade of Verde green paint was applied after many hours of prep work and turned out absolutely stunning. The power top and all gauges operate as they should and this car runs and performs like the day it left the factory.
Under the sleek hood you will find the 401 Cubic Inch Nailhead V8 that produced 325 Horsepower which was plenty to propel this 3,720 lb car up to highway speed without batting an eyelash. The M33 transmission shifts seamlessly and the addition of power steering and brakes make this drive more like a modern car of today. The Gran Sport package featured a heavy duty frame, axle, front and rear suspension and dual exhaust. The interior of this little beauty looks fantastic with white bucket seats and chrome plated center console with tachometer and working AM radio.
In 1965 there was a total production of 15,780 Skylark Gran Sports and of those only 1,426 were convertibles with automatic transmissions making this a very low production car with very few survivors. This is a car that is sure to impress at shows and is tremendous fun to drive.
