Description

"This is not your Fathers Buick"! Purchased brand new, riginally at Williams Buick, nc, n Dorchester Massachusetts on September 26, 952, t was sold to a gentlema, or his daughter who loved andowned it until her eventual passing, t which time it was eventually sold as part of her estate, aving been in hibernation for well over 21years in her garage. It was the Rip Van Winkle of Buicks, he proverbial Barn Find, o be re-awakened by meafter 21 years of sleep.
"They are only original once", s the new collectors car mantra. Findinguncorrupted original classic cars are the latest collectors car buyers dream, nd now considered more desireable to the restored carswhich have either received an amateur restoration, r restored wellbeyond what they originally represented when built. The original cars reveal their life's story and history via the charm of their originality. What you seeherein is how this Buick Special has not changed over the last six decades plus. As an aside..... note theoriginalwide whitewall spare tire in the trunk with jack and hardware.
Design cues for the 1952 model are interesting, llustrating the statement, rt imitates life. Side ventiport (portholes...think exhaust ports on early propeller driven fighters), he "gunsight" hood ornament, ppearance of the rear tail fins, nd the front jet like nacellesencompassing the park lights all emulate the focus on aviation and the advent of the jet age. The air gulping "Waterfall" grill was the a first for the 1952 model. The Sweepspear sidechrome moldingadded agraceful fluidity to a larger chassis.
Finished in Black lacquer, he paint is original with evidence of cosmetic refinishing to the left rear quarter panel, esulting in some cracking of the lacquer, ypical of its age. Some minor touch up has alsooccurred to the right rear quarter panel. The refinishing apparently not the result of rust issues, ut simply cosmetics. Additonally I noted a small quarter size rust hole while cleaning the carpets, n the right front floor, hich has been repaired nicely and sealed, ith new carpetjuting installed at this location. Overall, he Buick Special is pretty much rust free with solid floors, rame, uspension, heet metal, runk, ody mounts, oors, nbsp;quarter panels, enders, etc.
Chrome bumpers and stainless are very nice, owever the rear tail fins, irst for the 1952 model, nd front hood trim chrome have worn, llustrating some of the copper underlay, art of the original chroming process. All the glass is in excellent condition, nd the windows all function very nicely with no looseness or rattles. The Buick's interior is absolutely original and in nice condition. One small wear point exists onthe left front door by the handle where as I understand it, romspeaking with the executor of the estate, as wear from the ladies diamond ring over the decades. Allthegauges, urn signals, ontrols, nd lights function well with the exception of the temperature gauge, which I suspect is the sending unit. Amazingly.... the Sonomatic radio works fabulous. The clock unfortunately is only correct twice a day. There are no electrical issues.
a now larger displacement 263 cubicinch(4.3liter) 120 h/p "inline" eight cylinder engine, oupled to a four speed Dynaflow automatic transmission, ts runs drives, nd shifts nicely with no smoke or unusual noises. Uponpurchasing the car, thorough mechanical audit, nd update was performed, nclusive of replacement of the spark plugs, il and filter (semi synthetic 10/40 Pennzoil with ZDDP additive),brand new Interstate 6 volt battery (correct size) transmission and differential oils, omplete suspension lubrication, alve adjustment (.014 hot) brake inspectio, brake fluidflush and wheel cylinder replacement, ebuild of master cylinder, ew point andcondenser, enerator belt, oolant flush (correct green) wheelbearing clean repack and much more. The Special was additionally buffed, axed (Carnauba) and fully detailed.
In conclusion, he Buick Special is a fun, river quality, nd very unique example of the genre in which it was built. Rich and bold in black lacquer, ccented by tons of chrome, t garners a phenomenal amount of attention when on the road. Fullydocumented, ith the original bill of sale(s), isting no less than 14 accessories that were added to the car a time of sale, nd original registrations. Very unique andhighly collectible.
The Special will be sold as is where is, ith no warranty expressed or implied. I stronglyrecommend personalinspection prior to sale or by the buyers "qualified" representative. Iwill not allow inspection as a condition of sale prior to auction end. * Bidders with a feedback score of ten (10) or less, indly contact me prior to bidding, hus potentially avoiding having your bid cancelled. It would be appreciated. **I also reserve the right to end the auction early, iven the Buick Special is advertised on other venues both locally and Internationally. Respectfully, lease do not ask me what my reserve is, r buy in now price. If you wish to tender a "realistic" offer, lease feel free to do so.
Feel free to contact me with any question. Thank you for the interest, nd enjoy the pictures. Chris. 413-575-8600
