Gorgeous frame-off restoration One of only 1,023 coupes produced in 1939 Desirable two-tone Black and Grey Metallic exterior Custom Saddle Tan and Tobacco leather interior and trunk bay 135hp 346cid “L-Head” V8 Engine 3-Speed manual transmissionMotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 1930s icon. This rarely seen Cadillac is the recipient of a recent frame-off restoration in brilliant Black and Grey metallic with tan leather. This Series 61 coupe defies showing it’s age and still stands tall with it’s stately appearance. The engine bay and under body were painstakingly finished to a show winning standard!
For 1939, Series 61 replaced Series 60 and 65 of 1938. All V-8’s had new grille styling; similar in appearance but different in detail dimensions on each series. The pointed center grille and the functional side grilles were diecast with fine-pitch bars. A single diecast louver was positioned to the rear of each hood side panel. Headlights were once again attached to the radiator casing. Series 61 was available with or without running boards; had concealed door hinges except for the lower front hinge; and had chrome reveals on all windows. Chassis changes included: Tube and fin radiator core Sea shell horns under the plugs, Cross-link steering and slotted disc wheels.
Finished in a beautiful two-tone Black and Grey metallic scheme, the paint job shows extremely well with only minor imperfections visible upon close inspection.Front and rear bumpers (with “Cadillac” script embossed in black) are chrome and have an excellent fit and finish that show well. All trim pieces are present and have a brilliant finish with only very minor signs of age. The weather-stripping surrounding the doors and glass are in very good condition with no signs of drying, tearing or shrinkage. The headlights and taillights are in very good condition with no hazing or cracks.
Inside, the new custom Saddle Tan and Tobacco leather seats all look great with no major signs of wear visible. Although offering modern comfort, they still retain the correct period appearance. Included is a custom console, matching carpet and floor mats. The door panels and dashboard are matched perfectly and compliment the exterior of the car. The art deco gauges offer enough contrast to enhance the entire interior. The wipers and horn are inoperable. The dash and door panels have a “hand applied” custom wood graining patina. The headliner with the “Dome” light mirrors the rest of the cabin. This custom treatment of the interior is tastefully extended into the trunk bay completes the theme The original equipment steering wheel is in great condition with normal wear and just a couple of small cracks. Included with this car is the parts/service receipts, 1939-1941 Cadillac shop manual and original owners manual.
This nicely represented Cadillac is equipped with the single Stromberg AAV-26 carburetor, 135 hp, 346 cu. in. L-Head V8 engine, three-speed manual transmission, independent front suspension with unequal-length A-arms and coil springs, Hotchkiss semi-floating rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. We were informed that the motor was rebuilt during the restoration, but have no receipts to back this up. The 16 inch steel wheel with Cadillac center caps surrounded by Coker Classic whitewall tires show very little signs of marring.
