1937 Cadillac Series 60

5 Passenger Touring Sedan

We all have heard the catch phrases including one of the most recent by the Iconicautomaker"Cadillac, he Standard ofThe World".

As I starein aweat the impressive stature of this beautiful automobile I can clearly see whyCadillac'scampaign slogans always seem to imply grandure and brand dominance.

These carswere among the behemoths of the roads when there were few roads to travel and many were forged by simply traveling them over and over again.

By 1937 we as a nation had many highways in place connecting small towns and major cities, nd life was good (no, t was grand).

The 1937 Cadillac was allnew and the last of this segment.

Equipped with the powerfull and well balanced 346ci V8 the Caddy could and did travel at higher speeds and got its occupants to their destination in comfort and safely.

Let's not forget that back then these cars were a matter of social status, hey weren't the Fords, hevys, odges, r any of the other more affordable primitive wagons of the day.

You can easily spot the luxury rides from afar mostly by size and stature, s you got closer that's when it became clear of the extras and craftsmanship where the details were implied and sought after.

It represented luxury and that's what people wanted.

Cadillacs were and still are well known worldwide and a primary choice for many foreign political dignitaries and the wealthy of foreign lands.

This particular Caddy was acquired by us from a very proud owner whom claimed that he drove this Cadillac everywhere without question and it would travel down the highway at 80mph smoothly... We all know how opinionated some people can be and I definitely did not argue with the gentleman or doubt him in anyway.

Needless to say, e have the Caddy and we Love It!

It is a very sharp and solid example of oppulant times in American History, s gracious as it is beautiful and large.

This Cadillac runs great and it is a blast to drive.

The Cadillac Series 60 was Cadillac's mid-priced entry in the luxury vehicle market when it appeared in 1936. It was replaced by the Series 61 in 1939, ut a model that was derived from it, he Sixty Special, ontinued off and on through 1993.

The Series 60 was the brainchild of new Cadillac manager, icholas Dreystadt. Debuting in 1936, t filled a gaping price gap between the LaSalles and Series 70 Cadillac models. Initially it rode on a 121.0in (3,073mm) wheelbase and shared the B body with cars from LaSalle, uick, nd Oldsmobile. This went up to 124.0in (3,150mm) in 1937-38.

The exterior featured a new Harley Earl-designed look with a tall, lender grille and split vee-shaped windshield. This body used Fisher Body's new Turret Top one-piece roof and Bendix dual-servo brakes. "Knee-Action" independent suspension, irst introduced by Cadillac in 1934, as a welcome novelty for the mid-price market at the time.[2]

Under the hood was the new (less expensive) MonoblocV8. This 322cuin (5.3L) engine produced 125hp (93kW), ust 10 less than that in the larger Cadillacs. The Series 60 immediately became the company's best-selling model, aking up half of all Cadillacs sold the first year.

The next year, isplacement on all Monobloc Cadillacs was 346cuin (5.7L). This new engine produced 135hp (101kW), ore than all V8 Cadillacs of just a few years earlier. The Series 60 was superseded by the Series 61 and disappeared after 1938..
