IntroductionHello. I am Joe Lutz, wner of HotRod Dynamics. We build award winning, tate of the art hot rods, esto-mods, nd customs. This 67 Camaro is a very special car that was built at HotRod Dynamics as my personal project. I could write a book on this car, ut I’ll try to condense it some. The inspiration for this car was the Trans Am race cars of the late 60’s and early 70’s with the idea of applying modern technology to a timeless design. The car was designed and built to be driven. I have racked up 5600 extremely enjoyable miles in it and wouldn’t hesitate to drive it anywhere. It still shows very well and wins awards just about everywhere we take it because I take very good care of it, leaning it top and bottom after every outing. Most recently we were awarded the Roadster Shop “Best Engineered” award at Charlotte Goodguys just a few weeks ago. HistoryI originally purchased the car as a project in Reno Nevada at the Hot August Nights show. Although needing restoration, t was a complete and very solid factory V8 car with original rust free floors and quarters. It was originally completed in early 2013 just in time to take on the 2013 HotRod Power Tour. We completed the full 1200 mile tour with no issues and were invited to park in the car with the Dakota Digital Display for the duration of the trip and was featured in Motor Market magazine. This year I decided to update the car a little with the addition of a Detroit Speed Hydro form subframe, orvette Z06 brakes, oze alloy wheels, oyo R888 Tires. and a few other details including upgrading the LS7 head valve guides and polishing the valves. The car runs and drives strong as ever and looks the part. The photos are current and were just taken a few days ago.
DesignAs a mechanical engineer, thoroughly enjoy designing and building custom components and this car is full of them. I encourage you to pay close attention to the details and innovations incorporated into this car. Many of the items are one off custom built parts just for this car such as the fabricated stainless hood hinges that over center to lock the carbon fiber hood in the upright position without the need for a prop rod, pring or shock. Also see the matching trunk hinges. The carbon fiber center dash console took me nearly 100 hours worth of labor to design and build. The CNC machined stainless flanges for the down bars from the firewall to the subframe and the fender brace rods were both designed and built just for this car. The chromoly cage passes through the dash and tucks tight to the headliner to be as invisible and least intrusive as possible. The rear seat delete panels are custom fabricated. Obviously there is a lot of carbon fiber in the car as well as other weight saving design elements. We were able to keep the modern amenities such as a full insulated interior, igh end sound system, av, nd air conditioning while keeping the weight to a light 3200 lbs.
Cost analysisI would estimate the total cost to build this car with a shop rate of $60/hr to be approximately $250,000. I have enjoyed the car tremendously and hope the next owner will love and appreciate it as I have. The car still shows as a fresh build with very little signs of having been driven. The asking price is just over half of what the estimated build cost would be, o to say it is a bargain would be an understatement.
