Description

Up for sale is my fully documented and registered through (SS396 Registry and National El Camino Registry) 1968 Chevy El Camino SS 396. In 1968 Chevy offered an El Camino with the SS package. It came with the 396 V8 automatic and a 12 Bolt Rear End. They only made about 5000 Super Sports in 1968. This one has the 13880 VIN and is not a matching # Engine. but is a true totally rebuilt 396. from pistons. to lifters. to chrome valve covers. this 350HP has a new Eldelbrock air cleaner. and 750 CFM Eldelbrock Carburetor. new wires. Plugs. distributor. Radiator. and hoses. professionally rebuilt Turbo 400 transmission . universal joints. etc. . This El Camino has a new restoration with a complete new front clip (fenders. header panel. SS hood. And radiator support) these replaced a fiberglass front clip. & nbsp;Included in the restoration was new front sway bar. disc brake front up grade. all new polyurethane front suspension. shocks front and rear. All the chrome has been replaced except that chrome strip down the bottom (I was not a fan of). More pictures of the restoration can be sent apon request. This car will come with all documentation and receipts. I am retiring next month and can no long keep all my toys. Still needs some TLC here and there. not a best of show yet. but a great starter for what she is “a rare big block true SS 396”. The El Camino started off life as a butter nut yellow exterior. black interior. now a triple black with three coats of base coat clear coat. it does have a couple of flaws in the paint work. could use a good wet sand and buff. Under the seat was a built sheet but with a different vin number. but as i spoke to the experts at the Registry’s. this was not uncommon on the assembly line the guys would just put what ever built sheet they had in not knowing people would search for them 40 plus years later. When you walk around it you will see an arrow straight body with good gaps and fit of the panels. New weather stripping as well as the rubber door seals. It has the correct SS Hood and Trim. The final exterior touch is the set of 17” Boss Wheels and New Tires. The interior of the Super Sport is an original beach seat. New door panels and new black carpet. There is no AC compressor. Radio and heat are there but not hooked up. This car was taken down to bare sheet metal. replaced lower quarters patches. The Frame is very solid; Tail gate will need new driver side hinge replacement locks but does not close completely.
