Description

This auction is for a fairly rare and not often seen offered for sale 1950 Chevrolet Style line Deluxe Convertible. It has been in 39 years of dry storage and just recently seen the light of day. From what I was told it was purchased for the original owners wife. A little later on in life she decided to have the color changed from the beautiful Windsor Blue to this yellow beige color. It seems it was the popular thing to do back in the day but if I was restoring it, t would go back to the original color. The car was used sparingly as it only has 58,000 actual miles. It was put up in 1977. Approx 12 years ago the second owner who was their neighbor purchased the car. As you can see by the pics he started to do a little body work. The right side rocker panel and lower rear quarter section was removed as he was going to replace them.A little repair work to the floor on that side was done also. Thats as far as he got. The car was never touched again. Fast forward to now, e were able to purchase the car and pull it out of the little barn that it was stored in for so long. It took us some time and serious elbow grease just to remove the years of dirt and grime that accumulated. You are seeing the car just as we received it except for the serious clean up, olting the interior back in place,( seats need to be redone) purchasing a few parts and getting the car running. The car has the original 216 Blue Flame Six Cylinder Engine with 3 Speed Manual Transmission on the column. I cleaned the points, hanged the rotor button and added a outside fuel source. With a pull of the choke and a push of the button, he car started instantly like it had been running yesterday. I couldn't believe it. I have had nicer cars that only have sat for a few years struggle to start, ever mind run good without doing a major mechanical over haul. This motor runs quiet as a mouse and just as smooth as can be. The only thing you hear is a little exhaust noise as the muffler is missing. I yard drove the car and it shifts as smooth as butter. Go figure!! I have been using the E brake to stop it as the brake pedal is stuck into position. Looking underneath the brake lines dont even look that bad. Probably replace the master cylinder and put some fluid in and it wouldn't surprise me if they pump up. Of course if your going to fix it for the road your going to go through the brake system and do it right. The body is in decent shape for being 66 years old. It is going to need that passenger side inner and outer rocker and rear quarter. Also the inner rocker on the drivers side is getting tender. Most of the floor pan is original and decent. Back pans have been patched but should be fixed properly. Under the back seat is in very nice condition. The trunk pan appears to be solid with surface rust under the mat. The spare tire holder has a little rust through but can be repaired. Front fenders, oors and rest of the body is very solid. Body lines are good and straight. Frame is good and solid just surface rust. All glass is good. Passenger side vent window has a crack. The car has an original spotlight on the drivers side and appears to have had one on the passenger side but was missing. We acquired a correct one for that side but you will need the proper mounting bracket. We also have tune up parts, riginal jack, he splash guard and chrome molding for the passenger rear quarter,a pair of fender skirts and the old convertible top boot just good for a pattern. The interior is all intact minus the rubber floor mat. That was dry and fell apart when we cleaned the interior up. We tried the lights and most of them work and dash gauges all work. We did not mess with the power top motor as the top material is getting thin and did not want to disturb it. This is an excellent blank canvas if your looking to restore it as original or do the custom you always dreamed of. With vintage car prices soaring especially convertibles, ts getting hard for the everyday working person to afford a classic vehicle. Heres your chance to get in on the ground floor. You could spend a few weekends on this car doing the necessary things to get it back on the road and drive it like it is. The more you do the more its going to be worth. This is a great investment automobile. We have the last Maine registration and proper transfer paperwork should you need a title in your state. The registration is from 1979. If you need a current registration we can register the car and it will cost you an additional $150 should you need this service. We reserve the right to end the auction early in case of a local sale. If the car meets the reserve we will let the auction run to the end to be fair to all potential bidders. We require a $500 non refundable deposit at auctions end. Balance due within 3 days of auctions end. If you need anymore info or pics feel free to email us or call 1-207-324-5568 Days or 1-207-432-2862 Eves and Sundays.
