By 1968, the horsepower wars were at a fever pitch! High performance muscle and sports cars were on offer from the Big Three and cubic inches were King!! From 427 big blocks from Chevy and Ford to 426 Hemi's from Chrysler. Bigger was better and there wasn't anything you couldn't get as far as performance was concerned. But, not everyone was looking for cubic inches. When the Camaro was introduced, there were plenty of engine options from the trusty stove bolt 6cyl to the mighty 396c.i. big block. However, later in the model year, there was a little know option called RPO Z/28 Special Performance Package that became available. If you checked that box on your order form, you ended up with a race car for the street! Starting with a Camaro Sport Coupe with a very high revving 302 c.i. small block (that was very under rated at 290hp) under the hood. This was an engine exclusive to the Z/28 and not available with any other model. Along with the 302, you got a close ratio 4-spd manual transmission, throaty, dual mufflers, special suspension, heavy duty radiator w/temp controlled fan, quick ratio steering, 15x6 Rally wheels w/Red line nylon tires, 3.73 rear axle, heavy duty brakes w/power front discs, dual hood and rear deck stripes, front and rear spoilers and more! This was quite a deal for only $358.10! Thus, a legend was born . . .
The correct example presented here has been completely restored and features factory Custom interior and Rally gauge package.
