Description

This truck is all around in very good shape compared to a lot of the m1008s I have seen, and its got very low mileage (currently under 30000 miles, but I use this truck so it will keep going up).
I have had this truck for not quite a year, I love this old square body trucks, and it pains me to get rid of this one. I have portable sawmill and use this truck to pull my mill and log trailer, to haul firewood, or whatever other job I need it to do and it has never backed away. There are really only two reasons I am getting rid of this truck, first off as much as I love these old one ton trucks, they can really beat you up with their super stiff suspension, but more than that I am looking to get a backhoe or tractor soon that will tip the scales a close to 14000 lb's and I need a truck that will safely pull that kind of load.

Anyone who has had a 6.2 knows that they can be a dog, especially if its in a one-ton, let alone trying to pull something. You also know if you have ever driven a truck that has 4.56 gears, a 6.2, and a th400 that the engine is screaming just to get up to 55 or 60 mph. This truck however has had a brand new banks turbo diesel installed that has less than 3000 miles on it which helps it tremendously in the power department, it also has a 4l80e transmission with a torque shift stand alone controller behind it. This combination helps tremendously on the highway, it still has all the pulling power you get with 4.56 gears, but will easily cruise down the highway at 70 mph.
I have probably pulled 10000 pounds, or maybe a little more with this truck, and apart from running the rpms up bit higher to get the boost and extra power it needs it has never complained about a load. Cruising at 60-70mph it will run 2-3 pounds of boost, with moderate throttle pressure its goes up to around 5-6, with a big load up around 10. I have never seen the egt's get higher than 900 degrees, even when pulling a trailer full of logs.
The steering is pretty tight for a 30 old truck, you feel comfortable at highway speeds. I drove it all last winter without ever plugging it in (I don't think it even has a block heater that I have seen) and while it would start a little hard on a cold day it always started up. 4x4 works well, but I did notice a while a back that 4 low seems to have a little "tick" sound in it. I virtually never use 4 low, so I've not worried about.
The body does have some rust on it, but compared to the vast majority of these old square bodies left out there its in very good shape, the worst rust is on the doors and the inner fenders. I have done my best to show this in the photos. This has been a work truck for me, and the man before ( I am the second owner since purchase from the military) so body has some dents in it, but due to the flat paint they don't show much in the photos, I almost never notice them unless the truck is wet from the rain or something. Again, the worst dent is on the drivers side door, replacing that door would take care of a lot of the trucks body issue. The underside of the truck body, bed, and the frame rails are all in really good shape.
It has only been through 1 indiana winter, and I only drove it if I needed it (I drive a suburban most of the time)
The only mechanical issue that I know is with the fuel system, and while its not been a problem I just want to be as upfront as I can. Every once in a while, especially if the truck is parked on an incline or sits unused for a week or two it the fuel system will lose prime. What happens in this case is that I fire it up, it runs a couple seconds and dies, and then it takes some extra cranking to get it to fire up, and then its fine. I have not really looked into what might cause this, its never been a big enough problem to worry about, I could probably count the instances this has happened since I got the truck on one hand, and it always starts right up once he system gets re primed. It still has the original box fuel filter, so thats where I would start digging if I were going to try and take care of that.
Has the dana 60 front and corp 14 with detroit locker in the rear and 4.56 gears.exhaust is brand new, full 3" with a performance muffler (I don't remember the brand that was used, magnaflow maybe?) from the turbo back.rubber is in great shape, tires have probably 90% tread left.push button glow plugs, and push button startjust replaced the glow plug relay, and all the plugs ohm out well except for one which I'll likely replace soon.has newer shocks on it.has a spray in bed liner with lots of nice tie downs.the torque shift controller could probably use some fine tuning (3rd to fourth gear is much firmer than the other shifts) but its never been a bothered me enough to mess with it.has the np208 transfer case, and shift in and out of 4x4 very easilylocking hubs work as the should.motor leaks a little oil (again 30 year old truck we are talking about here), and the tranny pan leaks a little as well, I check them every few weeks and add some fluid if needed, its never been a big deal.new batteries within the last year.
heater works but the hot/cold slider is a little stiff.windows all work as they shouldfloor vents work as they shouldhas a brake controller installed and it works as it should9 prong trailer light plug works as it should in the rear.cd player works as it shouldhas a cb, i've never gotten it to work, but it comes with it.center console won't be included with the truck.has a nice dash coverseat is in pretty good shape, driver side has some tears, but is not totally trashed. passenger side is perfecthas newer carpet installedhas new door pannels to match the rest of the interior.
I have tried to be as thorough as I can, but if you have any other questions please send me a message and I'll do my best to answer it. If you would like to come see the truck in person you are more than welcome to do so.
