You probably won't find a better way to haul your family and your gear than this 1966 Chevrolet Nova wagon. Beautifully finished inside and out, it's an ultra-clean resto-mod that's already won more than its fair share of awards and drives so well that you'll be tempted to turn it into your daily driver. This is exactly the right way to build a resto-mod. Take one unmolested, straight Nova wagon, and spend a huge pile of cash restoring the body to better-than-new condition. Some would argue that the Nova offers the best-looking wagon of the mid-60s, trim and angular, but not a land barge, and with the stance and flashy wheels, nobody's going to accuse it of being their parents' car. The paint is a Crystal Red Metallic borrowed from the 2009 Corvette color chart, now rendered in beautiful two-stage urethane that gives it a fantastic shine. They added a cowl-induction hood during the build, but that seems to be the lone modification to the original spec; heck, even the luggage rack is still on the roof! The bodywork is laser-straight, the gaps are exact, and there's just no way the affordable little Nova ever looked this good on the showroom floor. It shows a few minor signs of use with 16,496 miles on the clock since it was finished, but the quality workmanship and expert care mean that it's still a show-winner just about anywhere it goes. The tan leather interior is beautifully customized, starting with a set of leather bucket seats with suede inserts. A custom console was fabricated to go between them and original-style door panels show you where the inspiration for the upholstery patterns came from. It looks very well-designed. The dash was painted to match the bodywork and topped with a tan dash pad and the original instrument panel is now filled with Dakota Digital gauges that offer a comprehensive look at the engine compartment. There's also a great-sounding AM/FM/CD/iPod stereo and powerful A/C to make this the ultimate road trip car. A color-matched steering wheel with beautiful details, a tilt column, and a taut headliner are all included with this well-built custom. The back seat is upholstered to match and offers two power outlets and an A/C duct, so rear seat passengers shouldn't feel left out. And you still get a giant cargo bay for all your stuff, nicely finished with matching tan carpets.A glance in the engine bay will help you understand why this car has been a multiple trophy-winner. The 350 cubic inch V8 is dressed from top to bottom in bright chrome surrounded by expertly finished inner fenders and firewall that give it a very polished look. The engine is topped by a FAST fuel injection system, so it starts quickly and idles well and doesn't have any carburetor fussiness. There's a big BeCool radiator up front, electric fan to keep things cool, and braided stainless lines throughout, with most of the wiring and plumbing neatly hidden out of sight. The transmission is a 700R4 4-speed automatic with overdrive, and with highway-friendly gears in the 10-bolt out back, it's a terrific cruiser, turning only 2100 RPM at 75 MPH. The front suspension is a Mustang II setup with tubular A-arms that eliminate the bulky shock towers, and it's got rack-and-pinion steering for a modern feel. Air shocks out back help keep the stance level no matter what the load and the 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels with staggered 195/60/15 front and 215/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials fill the wheel wells perfectly. This incredible car has scored 956 out of 1000 points at the Nova Nationals and won its class at World of Wheels.
