1955 Chevy "Locomotion" D/Altered 210 Sedan Barn Find/Survivor. This is one of the most authentic and original 1960's raced '55 Chevy drag cars in the country. Very well known and recognized car, has appeared in several publications including the cover of "Kustom" magazine. The car was built in Virginia around 1961 to run C/Gasand was painted gold at the time. Throughout the 60's it was repainted maroon, then purple with white pinstriping (remnants of the old paint jobs can still be seen on the car today). By the late 60's/early 70's the car joined Wes Johnson's "Locomotion" team and was painted it's current yellow, black, and silver metalflake. During this time it raced the Altered class with a heavily set back engine and further modifications. The carwas powered by a Hilborn injected 331ci. Around 1979 the car was given to Locomotion team member Gary McDonald who ran a dual quad tunnel ram 360ci. It was run with a big block for one season in the early 80's with Scott Pettit at the wheel before being sold to James Grob who installed the 327/331ci engine that I still have and that goes with the car. Jim re-named the car "About Time" and raced it until 1985. The car always went straight, never wrecked, and ran the 1/4 mile in the high 10's. It has raced at Richmond, Suffolk, Creeds, and other strips in the Virginia area.In 1985 itwas sold to a couple in New York who kept it in their barn until I bought it in 2007. When I bought the car I installed all new brakes, lines, and master cylinder, new Hurst racing tires, front drag shocks, and swapped the old race engine for a strong running 454 and TH350.I also had the front leaf springs re-curved. Last year Ipulled the 454 out for storage. There is currently no engine or transmission in the car. The original 331ci small blockand headers areincluded with the car, and the 454/TH350 is availableat additional costif desired. The original race motor is currently stuck, howeverit would be worth rebuilding. The engine features double hump fuelie heads with big valves, Sig Erson solid lifter full competitioncam, and 13:1 compression. Exterior: Original steel fenders, doors, and pin-on hood. Fiberglass trunk lid and hood scoop. Deleted headlights, parking lights, and front & rear bumpers with weighted rear push bar. Radiused wheel wells and plexiglass windows all around (even the front & rear windshields!)Body is in great shape overall.Rockers areexcellent with no rust. Floors have been heavily modified and patched over the years but are solid. The original trunk floor was cut out and replaced with tin for racing. Interior: Single bomber seat with original 60's upholstery.Heavy dutyroll bar with original vintage padding and head rest. Lightening holes have been drilled in the doors and interior rear quarter panels to reduce weight. Original dash has been modified to accept bare essential Stewart Warner gauges and cut for engine set back. A removable panel is fitted to access the engine from the rear. Metalflake steering wheel, Moon tach, and Moon gaspedal. Ratchet shifter with aluminum control box. I installed a newer lap belt however the original 5 point harness from the 60's is included. Chassis: The rear end is a 1959 Pontiacequipped with 6:14 gears, traction bars, and welded spider gears. The frontis anearly 60's Ford Econoline straight axle. Rear half of the frame has been drilled with lightening holes. Rear wheels are slotted mags with original 15" x 4" Cragar SS wheels up front. The tires "were" new, however the rear slicks have dry rotted badly from sitting and now only hold air for a few days. One of the front tires developed a defect on the tread. As it sits the tires are ok for display or rolling but will need to be replaced.Front frame horns modified and fitted with tow bar attachments. The frameand body mounts are all solid with no rust. Battery is located in the trunk and an original Moon 2 gallon fuel tank is fitted behind the grill. This is a rare opportunity to own an authentic, real deal 60's gasser. There are tons of new built 55's out there butvery few original vintagerace carslike this. I sincerely hope the new owner will appreciate the history of this car and continue to preserve it rather than restore it. It's only original once! I had the car running and driving for several years and have taken it to local shows. It will take very little to put it back on the track or even put it on the street. There is no title, car is sold on a Connecticut bill of sale only. If your state requires a title there are several classic car titling companies that will provide you with one for a reasonable fee. Original vin tag is present. Message or call Dean with questions, 860-873-1092 (office), 860-345-2100 (shop).
