The Cheyenne Super 10 was the highest trim level, it included power steering, tilt wheel, air conditioning, 2 speed wipers, cruise control, and similar luxury items of the time. This trim package on a C-10 with a 454 was rare. There is nothing preventing putting a 454 back in, restoring it, and selling it for piles of cash. It was stored inside and didn't move from 1981-2002, and was garaged most of the time from then until a few months ago. The rust on it is from driving in Nebraska for 7 years, since then it has been in Texas When I got the truck it had only the short block of a 350 in it, it was going to be put in for better mileage but issues came up and they didn't finish the swap in 1981. So I swapped in a Cadillac 472 and rebuilt TH400.
It runs and drives now, and I drove it to work like this for a couple years, but it should get some work before becoming a daily driver again.
The good:
- Has a 1969 Cadillac 472 engine
- Could use a rebuild, but has ran like this for years, burns some oil
- Since the truck had a 454 originally, it is setup well for the 472 - beefier springs, 4 core radiator, bigger trans oil cooler
- Edelbrock Performer intake
- K&N type air filter
- New timing chain and sprockets
- New plugs and wires
- HEI distributor
- Rebuilt TH400 transmission ~20k miles ago
- Comes with a spare set of internals
- Powertrax locker in the rear end, 3.08 gears
- 2.5" dual exhaust with Flowmaster 40 mufflers (it sounds good)
- Power steering
- Power brakes, discs on the front and drums on the rear (all pads are fairly new)
- Have the AC evaporator, condenser, and a new compressor on the shelf
- All parts are there, it needs the pulley/packaging figured out
- I have the cruise control stuff on the shelf, but haven't reinstalled it
- Dual 20 gal gas tanks, both work
- Selector switch rebuilt with Viton o-rings, no issue with ethanol
- Dash, all glass, lights, and grill are all original and in very good condition
- New poly front swaybar bushings
- Optima red top battery
- Removed rear glass seal, painted around there, and resealed it
- Sandblasted and painted most everything from the firewall forwards
- Original in-dash tachometer, 5000 rpm, and it works
- 100 mph speedometer, which can be easily pegged..
- Pulled the gauges out and cleaned them all, lubed the speedo cable, painted gauge bezels
- I put in a new black headliner and dyed the interior plastic and visors to light gray
- Painted the metal behind/under/around the dash
- It's black with metallic blue/green, have paint left if you want to match the rest with it
- The plan was a black/gray interior and black exterior
The bad
- The obvious body work I haven't gotten to
- Carb needs rebuilt (750 cfm quadrajet)
- Rear master cylinder leaks
- 2 exhaust manifold studs are broken off, so it leaks exhaust
- Seat is torn, but sittable
- One of the gas tank sending units doesn't work
- I run that tank dry, then switch to the one that works
- Has a BMW horn kluged in to pass inspection
- Needs new tires
The spare parts (shown in last 3 pics):
- TH400 internals and pan
- 750 cfm quadrajet
- 2 distributors (1 without a cap)
- Starter that would need rebuilt before use
- Power steering pump
- Radiator fan
- Cab corner body panels
- Lower door panels
- Other misc trim pieces
