Up for consideration is my 1985 Chevrolet Corvette with a 9 psi Vortech Centrifugal Supercharger, Water/Methanol injection system, and Tremec 5 Speed Transmission. I am the second owner and during my year ownership have worked to improve the drive-ability/performance of the car. The car is extremely fast and estimated to have approximately 675 horsepower (estimated at 475 rwhp).
A little history on the car...
The car was purchased by the previous owner new in 1985 from Artsma Chevrolet, Inc. in Wyckoff, New Jersey for $27,968.00. During his ownership, the following modifications made to the car by Style Off Road & Auto Centers at in Riverdale, New Jersey:
05/23/1995 - Install 1 Carrol/Vortech Supercharger, TPIS Headers, Borla Exhuast, Plug Wires, Throttle Body Airfoil, Comp T/A Tires, and adjust fuel pressure regulator
10/14/1995 - Install stainless steel body badges, recharge A/C system, install new valve covers, quick throw shift arms, super mini-ram, fuel rail kit, hi-flow cat converter, custom ported aluminum heads, crane roller rockers, replace all applicable gaskets, new plugs, new fuel pump, new sensor fan switch, rev limiter
10/18/1995 -Install Water/Methanol Injection System
08/21/1996 - Install pro control and rev control stabilizer, install Dana 44 rear end with 3.75 gear ratio, new 3/4" neck pcv breather, butler transmission and gear, Carroll Superfueler system.
Car was purchased by the previous owner new in 1985 from Artsma Chevrolet, Inc. in Wyckoff, New Jersey for $27,968.00. The original owner maintained the vehicle until his passing in 2013 at which point his wife consigned the vehicle with DC Classic Cars in Mooresville, North Carolina. She indicated that the car was always garage kept and has never been driven on a wet road. I purchased the car in August of 2015 as the second owner of the vehicle from the consignor, DC Classic Cars, located in North Carolina.
Included with the vehicle were all available receipts of work completed as well as the original window sticker and receipts. The car had a carfax verified history of 3,800 miles since new. While the overall condition of the car upon delivery was excellent, the Corvette did benefit from a new clutch master and slave cylinder, rebuild of front driver side headlight and rear radio antenna, removal of large “Pro Comp” Tach and installation of an A-Pillar dual gauge set up with corresponding intake temperature, boost and wide band exhaust air/fuel ratio sensors (Innovate Motorports LC-2). Most recently, the LC-2 system started malfunctioning and was removed with the original O2 sensor put back in place. The “plumbing” is still in place to add an LC-2 but I have found the ECU operates better with the original in place.
At the same time the digital gauges were added to monitor pertinent information, I had the digital dash color matched and rebuilt with LED’s to where instrumentation was uniform and to provide better light output. The supplementary fuel system was tuned, a new higher flow fuel pump/filter added, and a service was performed on the vehicle, to include new spark plugs. The car has benefited from the removal of the old problematic 4-speed and a Tremec TKO 500 5 speed transmission with high performance clutch added at a cost of nearly $7,000. New chrome ZR-1 rims (17x9.5 front and 17x11 rears) where added as well to give the vehicle additional traction given its high power output. The original wheels and a new set of tires are in excellent condition and go with the sale of the vehicle. I have also added a hidden Bluetooth RF Modulator built into the original BOSE radio (which works great) and have installed a switch which will activate the Modulator and deactivate the power antenna (in order to decrease wear on it). Lastly, the original transmission, digital gauge cluster, ALDL laptop connector, adjustable Mass Airflow Sensor and engine heads are also included with the sale of the vehicle as well as user manuals and the such.
A few months ago I had a local shop charge the A/C system which now operates perfectly. They also traced down and attempted to repair an oil leak. Being said, the primary thing that I would address would be the addition of a bypass valve. The amount of positive pressure due to the supercharger leaves nowhere for back pressure to go if it has built up. As a result, this has caused the car to leak oil again. Outside of those issues there is nothing wrong with the car and I would consider it in excellent condition overall. There is a small chip under the front license plate cover (about the size of a dime) that was there when I bought the vehicle. It is not that noticeable and never bothered me so I never addressed it and didn’t want to mess with the original paint.
There has been well over $30,000 put into the development of this Corvette and the power it produces is intoxicating. You simply could not build this kind of performance car for the money! This car will make someone an excellent open road race car, show car, or simply a fun driver. At under 5,000 original miles (I do still drive it) it has to be one of the lowest mile examples in the country and is a time capsule. I had purchased it as an American addition to my collection of mid-80’s sports cars but with young children and time at a premium, I have decided to move on to other things.
I have done my best to describe the condition of this car as accurately as possible but please remember that it is still a 32 year old vehicle. I encourage you to come see the car in person if possible and judge for yourself, I doubt it will be a disappointment! Clean title is in hand.
