We are beyond excited to showcase this ultra rare, unique and true 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454 LS5. Featured in the most desirable factory color, Cranberry Red (Code 75) with Black Stripes over Pearl White Vinyl Interior. The Chevelle received a complete rotisserie restoration in 2005 and has less than 1000 miles since being complete! The car has been stored in a air-conditioned garage until it just recently was brought out. The reason for the long storage? The LS5 454 developed a leaking head gasket, which not until recently led to the current owner's decision to put a Fully built 620HP/620TQ 496Ci Stroker Engine into it, while the LS5 was sent for a complete rebuild at the same time. So today the car is offered with both the 496Ci that is currently in the car and the stock LS5 454 engine with zero miles. Backed by the matching numbers M21 Muncie Transmission and a 12 Bolt Posi traction rear axle, giving you the choice to keep the the Chevelle as the Thunderous Pavement eater it is with the 496, or a complete stock, epitome of the muscle car era.
Exterior. Finished in The Original Cranberry Red with Black Stripes, the SS454 came standard with dual exhausts with bright tips, black painted grille, polished wheel trim moldings, a special rear bumper with rubber rub inserts and 14x7 Inch Sport wheels wrapped in F70 series Goodyear tires. This particular example features the option package that included the cowl induction hood, sport striping, and locking hood pins. The body and paint show excellent with only minor flaws around the rain drip rails.
Interior. Sitting inside the Chevelle, the interior is done in Pearl White Vinyl, and features a rarely seen factory air conditioning system, Delco AM Factory Radio, and tilt steering column. The interior shows very well!
Performance. Currently the heart of the beast is a Blueprinted, Fully Forged, 496 Stroker motor that produced 620HP and 620 FT Lbs of Torque on an Engine Dyno with 91 Octane Gas.The bottom end is an era correct 4 Bolt Main Block stuffed with a SCAT Crankshaft, JE Pistons connected to a set of SCAT Rods all held together with ARP studs. The heads started off as Square Ports and were machined for BRE 2.250 &1.900 Valves, and received a stage 2 Port and Polish. A complete BRE valvetrain and a custom Ground Hydraulic Roller Cam and lifters were used to finish it off. The F41 Special Performance Suspension package with the front disc brakes keep the suspension in check. The 360HP LS5 454 received a complete factory spec rebuild and will be included in the sale of the car.
With only 3,733 SS454 Chevelle's ever being produced, this unique opportunity to own a beautifully restored and built 4 Speed SS454 Car with not only the rebuilt LS5 motor but also a $10,000 built 496ci is very rare and makes a great investment and addition to any Muscle Car enthusiast's collection.
