1982 Corvette Collector Edition
It seems that the 1982 Corvette Collector Edition was very appropriately named.6759Collector Edition versions were created specifically to commemorate the ending of the run.Usually the first year and the last year of any run tend to be the most valuable to collectors.Certainly that holds true in this case because the 1982 Corvette was the last of the C3 generation of Corvettes that started in 1968.The car was made specifically so that it would be deemed a collector’s piece and therefore was named “Collector Edition”.
It is well known to some that a certain amount of time each year is devoted to picking out new colors for the next year’s colors. In the case of the Corvette collector edition it has been said that the committee that derives new colors for the following year spent an exorbitant amount of time to come up with the special color scheme and striping for this car.We have always felt that this is one of the best color combinations that we have ever seen on a Corvette.
Another thing to keep in mind on the Corvette Collector Edition is that there were only 6759 examples made. All with the 200 hp 350 ci L 83 engine “cross fire” computer controlled fuel-injected engine and the new 700-R 4 automatic overdrive transmission.
The beauty of the 1982 Corvette Collector Edition is that besides it being a Corvette the highly attractive color scheme it is an entirely pleasant car to drive on a daily basis. It comes close to being a convertible because of the bronze-tinted T-Top and it is very comfortable because of the luxurious silver beige leather upholstery. The convenience in traveling is that it has the unique lift-up rear window. It has the dubious distinction of being the first Corvette to break the $20000.00 barrier listing at $22538.00.A far cry from the $4 663.00 that it had taken to buy a nicely equipped 1968 Corvette.
The stylist wanted to make the last year for the C 3 Corvette the most important of the series and GM came up with the idea of making a collector model and making the interior trim the most luxurious ever on a Corvette with leather wrapped steering wheel luxury carpeting plenty of leather through out the interior. In terms of acceleration for the day the Corvette did a very respectable 7+ seconds 0-60.
