Corvette aficionados around the world were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new 3rd generation Corvette. And the car didn't disappoint in the looks department! This new "Shark" was very similar to the Manta Ray show car of the mid '60's and some of the items on the show car, ike the fiber optic light monitoring system and hide-a-way windshield wiper door made it to the production Corvette.
By 1968 the muscle car wars were at a fever pitch! The big three were offering everything from multi-car small block and big block V-8’s to Elephant motor’ d Hemi’s! Naturally, hevrolet was in the horsepower game full tilt, ith America’s only sports car fully represented. There were a whole lotta performance choices when the new Shark was introduced. And one of the mightiest combinations available on any performance car was the already legendary L71, olid lifter 427ci big block pumping out 435 hp along with a close ratio Muncie 4-spd manual transmission. This combination was almost unbeatable on the track and the street. When a Corvette pulled up alongside you with 4-2-7- emblazoned on the domed hood, ou knew to politely let it pass . . .
