Description

Painted in '97, aint is beautiful with great depth andshine but not perfect, as small stone chips. Original 396 no longer with car, fresh 454 was installed in late 2000's. Has an edelbrock aluminum top end including heads. A Keisler overdrive kit was installed with a Tremec TKO600 5 speed manual overdrive transmission. 12 bolt posi with 4.10's. Run strong, tops fast, rives like a new LS6 car; from factory was a L34 SS396 car. Have protecto plate, o not have build sheet. Car was original air condition car, nder hood air condition parts no longer on car, ave all parts though. Dash ductwork and controls still in car, onverted to heater only: heat, efrost, nd vent work.Glass may beoriginal, ot cloudy but has some scratches, mall chips.

Decoding the VIN the assembly plant was Los Angeles

I don’t have all history but as far as I know car spent it’s life in Idaho before I bought it in 2001 from a collector car dealer in Boise, as been garage keptwhile I’ve owned it.

No accidents while I’ve owned car and I’ve found no evidence of a previous accident. I’ve been all over car, aking almost everything apart while upgrading suspension, eplacing motor, pgrading trany, ebuilding/upgrading rear end, pgrading brakes, ad gas tank out to make sure fuel system was clean, ad interior removed with exception of head liner. I was hoping I would find the build sheet on one of these projects but never did. I haven’t had seat covers off or head liner off, uild sheet could be under one of them. I think someone redid seat covers before I got car, hey look great and with car being in west coast sun. Head liner looks original, ood shape but aged.

Everyone I’ve had look over car and decode thinks the car is an original SS, ut without the build sheet there is no positive proof. But I can tell you for what it is worth all badging are original pieces, ot repops, reat shape but with patina. SS instrument cluster looked original,( non SS have large rectangular speedo,) gauges were in nice shape but with patina, lock didn’t work, replaced it when restoring dash. (Cleaned and dyed or painted, eplaced nazelle) Replaced SS steering wheel, t had cracks in the plastic grip area. Decoding VIN and protecto plate car was factory big block, 34 396 350 HP with a Turbo 400 3sp auto, 2 bolt 3.31 posi. I’ve been told this list of options is on SS only.

Have invoice forpainting in1997, here wasno rust repair listed, ust blocked car until straight and painted. Car originally was black cherry with a black top. Previous owner, nd current owner, ove copper metalic. Car is a driver, ou can find stone chips if you look for them, ut car is beautiful, get tons of compliments. I’ve put 6500 miles on car since purchasing.

I have after market control arms on all but front lowers, lobal West and Edelbrock. New spindles, uick ratio power steering box, ibach springs all 4 corners, delbrock shocks 4 corners. Drive train and suspension done in mid to late 2000’s, as less than 2500mi.

Had 12 bolt freshened up with new Eaton posi, ew Richmond 4.10 ring and pinion, eavy duty Yukon axles from Randy's,all new bearings and seals including wheel bearings.

Has hooker headers, ent them to Jet Hot Coatand ceramic coated but not typical silver, olored them black to contrast all of the aluminum and chrome on motor. Jegs exhaust, t’s loud.

Edelbrock performer rpm top end, luminum heads, anifold, arb, am. Runs on pump gas, 3 octane. Measured compressions 10.4:1. Forged Wiseco pistons, stock cast crank and rods, bolt mains, lockbored .030 over.

Keisler supplied trany conversion from T400 auto to 5spd.: Lakewood bellhousing, edal assymbly, tc, tc. Approx. 2500 miles on tranny. Although car has 4.10 rear, f driving freeway in 5th car turns 2500 rpm at 75 mph. First through third is steeper than any of the Muncie ratios. So best of both worlds, cceleration and low rpm cruise.

Underhood factory air parts made car miserable to work on, hanging plug 6 and 8 was really difficult with air in way. I would put an aftermarket air back on car if I had to have it. Dash looks and is a factory air car. I have all original underhood factory air parts to go with car upon sale if new owner wants them.

Brakes are factory parts but new, isc front, rum rear, ith exception of hydraboost master cylinder, his nearly doubles line pressure, rakes are phenominal. All new lineswhen I added hydraboost in late 2000's.

Had factory 4 core copper radiator recored. Car runs 195° - 200°F all the time, ighway or sitting in traffic.

When I bought it in 2001 it had the factory 14” Super Sport Wheels. Tire sizes are limited for 14” rims. I sold these. On car now and in pictures are 15” Wheel Vintique Super Sport Wheels, ” wide front, ” wide rears. BFG P225/70-15 front, FG P275/60-15 rear. Fronts basically new, rear drag radials have about half there life left.

Car works great and looks great. I consider it a resto-mod, ooks factory, ut mechanically upgraded.
