Description

Build it as you like: Matching numbers original engine/transmission/rear end base engine car, R use the 1958 Corvette correct 4900R fuel injection unit with correct 914 distributor that comes with this car to have yourself a 290 HP fuelie! You have several choices, ince the original drive train is included. Build a matching numbers Corvette with the base 230 HP engine, r build a 290 HPfuelie using the original block or a separately procured 283ci block. You could even install the fuel unit on the currently installed 327ci engine and save the original matching numbers engine for future use. The choices are yours, nd they are changeable in the future. I do not have the intake manifold or carburetor that the original engine came with but they are available on eBay and elsewhere.

See the photos forthe host of parts that comewith this car. The paint has been stripped to the fiberglass and the body has never had significant damage. The right rear quarter panel had been hit lightly but is now repaired. The left front valance beneath the grille surround has a small crack that is easily repaired. You can clearly see what you are getting. The door/hood/trunk gaps are some of the best I have seen on a C1 car and the door close easily and solidly. The frame is rock solid and at one time was painted gloss black. Virtually all of the chrome and stainless trim are included, ncluding all of the interior and exterior trim on the hard top. The chrome needs to be replated, xcept for the grill bar and teeththat looks to be in very good condition. New replacement glass for the hard top rear and side windowsis included. In addition, complete Al Knoch Signet Redinterior, ncluding carpet, eat covers, oor panels, ash pad, tc., omes with the car as well as a new Signet Red steering wheel. The car has not been licensed for use on the road since 1971. Mileage is believed to be accurate as the oil change sticker on the driver side door shows the mileage to be89,586on July 29, 969.

The fuel unit & distributor: Lyle Davidson of Davidson Restorations (www.davidsonrestorations.com/), Rochester fuel injection expert, ut the 4900R fuel unit on his test stand 283 engineto determine if it would run. It does! Lyle believes the unit was restored several years ago and then put on the shelf and not used. Lyle ran it for some time on his test rig. He believes it will need some tweaking when finally installed on the target engine, nd he will be happy to discuss the unit, s well as the 914 distributor that he also examined, with anyone who might like more information (his telephone number is 571-224-8830 -- please call between 5:00pm and 10:pm).

The original drive train: The original 283ci engine was reportedly rebuilt several years ago but never installed in the car. I would recommend that you go through the engine to ensure all is well before running it. Meanwhile, he 327 now installed enables the car to be moved around, railered, tc., asily and under its own power, nd could continue to be used in the restored car if one choses. Blocks with the 3858180 casting number as this one haswere used on a limited number of 1965 Corvettes.

The car was built in July 1958. It was last licensed for road use in 1971. Original drive train numbers include the following:

Block Casting Number/Date: 3737739 G38 (July 3, 958); Engine ID Code Stamp: F708CQ (Flint July 8, 558 230HP Manual Transmission); LH Head: 3748770 F 6 8 (June 6, 958); RH Head:3748770 B 6 8 (February 6, 958); Transmission: 3743368 F 9 8 (June 9, 958); Tail Shaft: 374745 B 24 8 (February 24, 958); Rear End: 3725699 F 4 8 (June 4, 958); Harrison Radiator: 58E (May 1958).

NOTE NUMBERS CORRECTION: Two of the part/casting numbers listedin the descriptionabovehave typos in them. The tail shaft housing number should read 3737450 vice 374745, nd the rear end casting/part number should read 3725899 rather than 3725699. Sorry for the confusion.
