Description

A beautiful 1950 Bel Air 2 door Hardtop. The first year for the Bel Air. A factory black car with lots of decoration including 4 bumper guards front and back and additional guards going between them. The interior has been re-newed with power leather seats from a 2011 Malibu. The front seats also have power tilt for the backs. The back seat also from the Malibu folds down for trunk access. The carpet is new, nbsp;the headliner and door panels are in very good condition. The sill plates are also new. All of of the lights work, nbsp;a button was added for the horn. The temp gauge works but the gas gauge does not. The gas gauge is new, nbsp;so it will need a new gas sending unit. The car was completely rewired with all new vintage look wiring with cloth covers, nbsp;so no worries about wiring problems. The wipers were upgraded to an electric motor. The radio does not work.
With the new wiring the car was converted to 12 volts. A new GM alternator and battery were added.
The engine starts easily and runs like a top. The engine is a 235 from a 1959 Chevy truck. The truck 235 is an upgrade for more power, n increase of 55 HP. The engine is also a full pressure oil system or a better design. The engine received a dress up kit with a chrome valve cover and chrome side cover plate. The radiator, elts and hoses are new. New distributor cap, otor, park plugs, nbsp;wires, oil and pertronix electronic ignition. New water pump, uel pump and rebuilt carburetor with new gas lines. The car runs and drives nice but remember this is a 65 year old car with antique style brakes and steering so it does not handle or stop like a race car. The tires have plenty of tread. The wheels and hub caps were donated by a late model Caprice.
The re- paint is old and driver quality that has developed a patina from at least 30 years ago. There are chip, nbsp;scrapes, listers and some corrosion but not much. The worst area is in the quarter by the chrome gravel shield. I have included a patch panel for this area. There is some corrosion around the belt line trim rear of the doors that is hard to see in the pictures. The chrome bumpers are fabulous but they could use a re-chrome. You could probably buy just the bumpers new and transplant all of the guards which are in good shape. The front grill is also pretty nice. The bottom of the car has surface rust and a good coating of Georgia red clay over the old undercoating. The only real corrosion is some perforation of the inner right rocker. I tried to get pictures of this but they did not come out very well. There are a few places, n the inner rocker, nbsp;the largest about 2-3 inches by 1/2 inch.
We had never planned to fully re-store this car as there is always a competition to see who has the shiniest car. Instead, nbsp;I find it more fun to show up in the most interesting car that you can take anywhere without having to worry about getting a door ding or a scratch on your $10,000 slick paint job. The car in its present condition will last a lifetime if just garage kept. It is a driver and quite an attention getter. The Cadillac of Chevrolet with its unique 3 window rear glass, nbsp;a bulging trunk with a hardtop designed to look like a convertible.
The windshields should be replaced for safety and the right side has a small leak if you get stuck out in the rain. They are available on ebay along with a new seal that you will need. Heater by passed, nbsp;no spare tire
The car is registered in New Hampshire that does not issue titles for antique cars. You will get a copy of the New Hampshire registration and a bill of sale to register the car in your state. I am selling for a friend there but the car is in MA.
There has been a lot of time and money spent to make this car a road worthy and reliable antique. It is ready to enjoy. Good Luck Bidding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
