Watching incredible muscle cars roll through our RK Motors Charlotte showroom never gets old. But sometimes we get the feeling that the pro-touring movement has become more about show and less about go. After all, he philosophy of applying modern technology to old school metal began with guys who were willing to forsake comfort for their obsession with low E.T.s and big skid pad numbers. And that desire to constantly push the boundaries of classic car performance continues to stoke prices, roaden appeal and spawn a roster of homegrown businesses. Envisioned as the ultimate representation of "sinister functionality", his razor-sharp Chevy is the direct result of what happens when a diehard enthusiast buys his 22nd Camaro and spares no expense in creating an all business, rans Am-inspired caf racer. And if you're a discerning gearhead who's looking for a car with a little more substance than chrome and bright paint, t's your one-way ticket to bigger and better things!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Transformed into a lean, ean pro-touring machine by Mooresville, orth Carolina's Detroit Speed, nc., his surly F1 wears a ground-up restoration that features a number of thoughtful upgrades. The car's metamorphosis began with a relatively tired body that still featured original GM quarters and straight GM fenders. After a bit of high quality metalwork, hat solid profile was married to fresh Soffseal weatherstripping and aligned to better-than-factory fit. With that clean fuselage as close to perfect as possible, smooth coat of PPG Dark Titanium Pearl was sealed in a thick layer of clear and buffed to an immaculate shine. And, -years and 6-figures later, his Chevy debuted as an incredible, ye-catching classic that's sure to make any enthusiast happy!

There's no question that the '69 Camaro is one of the best-looking muscle cars of all time. And when a team of skilled builders executes a bit of carefully planned customization, t only serves to make things better! At the front of this sinister coupe, shaved grille hangs modern headlights above screened parking lamps, custom, 80-style spoiler and a painted, ucked and smoothed bumper. Above that grille, custom, S-style hood floats between a shaved header, onochromatic trim and lightly tinted glass that's cleared by Detroit Speed Selecta-Speed wipers. At the sides of that glass, ustom, MW-style marker lamps combine with nickel-plated door handles and painted F2 mirrors to add just the right amount of detail to the car's shaved, et-look profile. And at the back of that profile, custom, ow-rise spoiler frames a shaved valance, ustom taillights and a second painted, ucked and smoothed bumper.

ENGINE

Lift the car's billet-tinged hood and you'll find $16K worth of Corvette V8 that was sourced directly from Chevrolet Performance. Twisting 505 SAE-certified horsepower into 470 lb./ft. of torque, he lightweight LS7 rumbling between the car's fenders is a 21st century testament to the bowtie division's enduring small block. Founded in GM's very successful Corvette racing program, he brutal mill utilizes a forged crank, itanium rods and hypereutectic pistons to flat out whip pretty much anything with four wheels. A perfect amount of oxygen flows from a cased filter element through a Satin Black air tube to a CNC-ported Mike Norris Motorsports throttle body. That wind mixes with fuel in a composite intake and progresses to CNC-ported cylinder heads that are built with lightweight titanium valves. Those valves get bumped by a GM hydraulic roller cam that, hanks to high quality Goodridge fluid lines, elps create stout 11 to 1 compression. Immediately following combustion, pent gases roar through stainless, ong-tube headers. Charge comes courtesy of a fresh alternator that, ike the car's AC compressor and direct-fit steering pump, pins a modern accessory drive. GM electronics combine with American Autowire wiring to light the fires, hile Peterson fluid components provide requisite dry-sump lubrication. Items like a Be Cool radiator, etroit Speed plug wires, fresh brake booster and big SPAL puller fans ensure earth-shattering performance. And, imple brace bars, illet hood supports and a Detroit Speed-branded firewall join custom rail, oil and valve covers to enhance minimalist, rack-ready aesthetics.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Speaking of track-ready, f you're serious about building a track-ready pro-tourer, he folks at Detroit Speed are exactly the kinds of friends you need to have. And, iven the hardcore nature of this Camaro's build, t's fate as a pilot car for the firm's hydroformed front clip and QUADRALink rear suspension was pretty much a given. Behind the rowdy engine, Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed spins a custom Dynotech driveshaft. The aforementioned QUADRALink hangs double-adjustable coil-overs at the sides of a proven Ford 9-inch, hich spins a Truetrac differential around Moser axles, orino bearings and big, .70 gears. Opposite that QUADRALink, he aforementioned front clip makes good use of tubular control arms, wo more double-adjustable coil-overs and power rack-and-pinion steering. At the corners of that suspension, olor-keyed 4 and 6-piston PBRs clamp 14-inch drilled rotors: the exact same set-up you'd find on Chevrolet's fantastic C6 Z06. Exhaust floats through custom, -inch pipes, hich employ aggressive Borla mufflers. Power meets the pavement via Compuware Corvette-inspired Fikse Profil 13s, hich twist Glasurit centers and powder-coated hoops around 275/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As and 335/30ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. And the car's solid, hino lined floors, hich follow Detroit Speed subframe connectors with Detroit Speed mini tubs, re finished with Aeromotive fuel components, stainless Rock Valley tank and a Derale remote power steering cooler.

INTERIOR

Hit the door poppers and you'll find a custom leather interior that, ike the rest of the car, laces function above all else. The firm seats, odified Recaro Specialists up front and a custom bench out back, ere, long with the car's door panels, onsole and carpet, nstalled by Chuck Hanna's Hot Rod Interiors of Mooresville, orth Carolina. In front of those thrones, custom, ova-inspired dash makes referencing Auto Meter Phantom II gauges super easy while keeping Alpine audio and Vintage Air climate control within arms reach. At the base of that dash, igh quality Dynamat insulation founds custom sills and color-keyed floor mats beneath billet foot pedals and a small, illet shifter. In addition to billet window cranks and soft courtesy lighting, he cockpit features a full JL Audio sound system. In front of the driver, "GM" branded Momo Race wheel laps a tilting Ididit column. Behind the passengers, remotely opened trunk hides a hearty Optima battery. And a custom, -point roll cage combines with a small fire extinguisher and sturdy, -point harnesses to ensure plenty of safe travel.
