This is a very rare and desirable special order "High Impact" Tor Red color 1970 Chrysler 300 Convertible. It was special ordered by the original selling Chrysler dealer owner for his wife, er the second owner. The second owner saw it in the dealer service area one day and was so impressed by it that he asked the owner of the dealership if it was for sale, nd was indeed able to buy it. I am aware of only one other 1970 300 convertible with this special EV2 color having been built by the factory. That second one was sold on Ebay Oct. 5, 008, hich was the last time I have seen anything about it. The name of the color was Tor Red for the Chrysler/Plymouth Division and Hemi Orange for the Dodge Division. The original body code plate reflects the EV2 designation for this factory color. I also have some photos of the car from the second owner circa 1973. At that time it was in outstanding condition. This 300 has the standard 440 engine and is loaded with nearly all the options except for console and the HP version of the 440 and a few others. It even has power vent windows, hich are rare for any of the 1970 Chrysler Corporation convertibles, ower door locks, ornering lights, ower antenna, ilt and telescoping steering wheel, ower disc brakes, uto temperature control air conditioning and more. It appears to have an original 42,000 miles on it judging from the brake pedal trim lack of significant wear, ondition of the sway bar bushings and condition of the seats, nd other items that reflect the minimal use of this vehicle.
Unfortunately, t some time in its history, t sat in Virginia on damp ground, o the underside of the car is rusty. However, he top side of the car including the body side panels show a very minimum of rust through, ith only a few spots, ne in the passenger lower front fender and in the driver rear quarter. And most of the paint on the car appears to be original and there is only some small amount of filler in the driver side rear quarter panel, ot anywhere else based on the indications of a coating thickness meter that I use to evaluate these things. But the subframe will need to be replaced and the front leaf spring hangers are pretty rusty. The rear floor pans and some portions of the trunk pan will need attention as well, s shown in the photos of the underside. I have had input from a varitey of people regarding this car where some say the rust is substantial, nd other say it is minimal, eing differentiated by where these people live. West Coast people seem to think it is substantial while some East Coast people think it is relatively minor. So you be the judge based on the photos. Also, he engine does not turn, ut it probably could be rebuilt and is numbers matching. I was unable to find a build sheet for this car, ut the early photos from the second owner confirm the color and high options of this 300.
This car needs a complete restoration but when done, t will be a striking looking vehicle, nd you very likely won't find another one at any car show. And the white interior and top further complement the appearance and overall impact on the way this car looks and hopefully will yet look. I also have a life long California 1970 300 convertible, ith hardly any rust, or parts to help in restoring the body on this vehicle. It can be made available for sale if desired after this auction is completed. Please ask any questions you may have and I will do my best to answer them. Also, lease be sure you have considered all implications concerning your purchase before bidding.
