1947 Woodie Wagon 4dr Sedan

Wonderfully restored, his beautiful Town & Country Sedan represents a great opportunity to acquire one of the most stylish and desirable automobiles of the immediate postwar era. Model C38W. 114 bhp, 50.6 cu. in. L-head Spitfire inline six-cylinder engine, hree-speed manual transmission, ndependent front suspension with coil springs, ive rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, nd four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 121.5" The end of World War II brought with it an unprecedented demand for new cars and as America’s automobile manufacturers struggled to meet this pent-up demand, omplete model changes were delayed by several years. Chrysler’s 1946-1947 Town and Country, owever, as one notable exception. Originally conceived in 1941 by Chrysler’s Dave Wallace, he Town & Country was only available in four-door “barrelback” form, ith a beautifully crafted wooden body. After the war, hrysler introduced new Convertible Coupe and four-door Sedan variants of the Town & Country, eplacing the previous station wagon. Spurred on by an enticing advertisement campaign and a two-page spread in the Saturday Evening Post, nxious public interest in the new Chryslers prevented the firm from making any clay models or prototypes. As a result, he car was reportedly constructed directly from design sketches to meet looming time constraints. As renowned author Donald J. Narus so aptly wrote in his work, hrysler’s Wonderful Woodie – The Town and Country, ldquo; The Sedan, hile it did not share the glamour of the convertible, as perfectly at home on any of the swank estates of Long Island.” Narus continued, ldquo;Where the convertible had pizzazz, he Sedan had elegance, marvelous blend of wood and steel.” Although the majority of Town & Country Sedans were built in 1946, ust 2,651 examples were produced for 1947. The example offered here was formerly from Texas and with its original, ust-free body panels and the original woodwork, t displays a beautiful restoration to original specifications. With a handsome blue exterior finish complemented by excellent brightwork and lovely woodwork, his Town & Country also features a factory correct interior fitted with burgundy upholstery and carpeting. This well-equipped example also includes a clock, n AM radio, eater and defroster. Underhood, he Spitfire inline six-cylinder engine and engine bay are very attractive and well detailed as well.
