Description
You are viewing a 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe. equipped with a 440 cubic in. V8 engine. automatic transmission. black leather interior and power everything. The Crown Coupe -- an extremely rare car. as only 2. 56 were made -- was Chrysler Corporation's flagship luxury coupe in 1968 and was a worthy competitor of the Cadillac Eldorado and the Lincoln Mark Series for the upper echelon of the American car market. This particular example is presented with a glassy gold finish and a black vinyl top. a very elegant combination that exudes the class and style that buyers with a certain discriminating taste were looking for in '68. And it still hits the mark. On a long drive this summer from my home in Clinton. NY through Utica and north toward Watertown. I witnessed the effect firsthand. The car garnered many waves and smiles. and I think most people were pleasantly surprised by a car that they couldn't readily identify. With such incredibly low production numbers. the chances of seeing one in its natural habitat are very slim. I think this gives everyone a real thrill. The Crown Coupe is a real pleasure to drive. it fires up eagerly and is silky smooth rolling down the highway. The legendary 440 cubic inch engine. one of the great motors of all time and probably second only to the "hemi"s in the Chrysler arsenal. is the perfect match to this big touring coupe. It cruises along effortlessly and provides a sensation of limitless torque that is an absolute joy to experience. Sitting in the leather bucket driver's seat looking over the beautiful dash and that long hood. its easy to be transported back to the late '60's when style and masculinity were at a pinnacle. when men dressed well. worked hard and made America the greatest country in the world. And they drove cars that are still seen as the benchmark of style and craftsmanship even today. I have owned and collected classic cars for the last 26 years. beginning with the 1969 Dodge Charger I bought when I was sixteen. and which I still own today. I still own my 2nd car as well. a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am. which I drove from my senior year in high school through to my second year of graduate school in the department of English at the University of Central Florida in Winter Park. FL. So my passion for classic cars -- and especially Mopars -- has been a lifelong pursuit and is about the most fun I can imagine having. I am an Oxford-educated motorhead that's been car crazy since bell bottoms were in style the first time around. And because I love to find. own. drive and collect all kinds of classic cars. there comes a point when I have to sell a few of them to keep my collection manageable. or else they all don't get exercised like they should. This is one of those times. My collection has expanded to about 20 cars. when really. if I am totally honest with myself. I should get it down to about twelve so that I have the time to drive and enjoy them all. I am a firm believer that cars should and need to be driven. And when I can't drive them all enough. I go through the painful process of letting a few of them go on to new owners that will hopefully get out there and drive them more than I have time to. Before its all said and done. there will be about seven up and available. This Imperial has been a real pleasure to own and while it isn't perfect. it is a wonderful example of maybe the lowest production luxury coupe every produced by the big three automakers. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed. and any improvements can be made while still being able to take it out for a Sunday drive. The car is equipped with A/C. nbsp;which isn't working at the moment. That's one of those items you could address as you see fit. Here in New York. nbsp;it just isn't that big of a deal. I have the original Imperial air cleaner and many other original parts. I was also able to locate two build sheets; I removed one and left the other in the car where it was placed when it was built more than 40 years ago. I've included videos of both build sheet locations. plus a walk-around of the car and many other photos at the links below. Otherwise. please let me know if you have any questions and of course you are more than welcome to come and view the car in person. I think you'll be pleased you did. As rare as this car is. determining an asking price wasn't easy. so I just went with the book price and I think its pretty fair when you consider the similar. nbsp;much higher production luxury coupes out there. And if you have a cool classic car that you think I might be interested in. let me know. maybe we can work something out!Build sheet videos:https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=XKkllX9atwohttps://www. youtube. com/watch?v=K_E5Y_PwM4I Walk-around video:https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=sT1T5HNAbyo Crown Coupe idling nicely:https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=ByJJFTxStAQ Additional photos:https://www. flickr. com/photos/97286492@N06/sets/72157647779742614/
