1930 Chrysler 77 Royal Coupe offered by Gas Monkey Garage with . ! In 1930, Chrysler produced the series 77 featuring hydraulic internal brakes, a new flat V-type radiator and a floor-mounted gearshift for the four-speed transmission. Part of Chrysler's success was their racing pedigree. Their cars appeared at Le Mans, Spa and in the Mille Miglia since 1924. In 1930, two model 77 Roadsters raced at Spa in Belgium. A Chrysler driven by Stoffel and De Costier finished 5th behind three Alfas and a Bugatti.The Chrysler 77 series was named because Chrysler guaranteed a cruising speed of 77 miles per hour and a top speed of 90 miles per hour! Power was supplied by a 100 horsepower six-cylinder motor. The Chrysler Building in New York City was completed in 1930 and the Art Deco styling is shared with this 1930 Royal Coupe. The exterior is in good condition with what appears to be a respray some time ago showing well with minor nicks and chips and some crazing not visible in the pics with most exterior trim present and in good usable condition making for an easy restoration. Interior pics reveal a fairly complete interior with good dash and gauges and most of the 30’s era Art Deco inspired trim and handles in good condition (see all pics) that would benefit from some TLC. Underside pics show a fairly solid chassis that appears mostly original with minor superficial rust present on most components. The engine fires right to life with the original foot operated starter pedal and idles smoothly with the steering wheel controlled throttle still operational! A brief drive exhibited a strong engine pulling through the gears with a compliant ride and fir, solid braking that you won’t find in most 30’s era cars that lack hydraulic brakes! While this car runs and drives, it will need to be completely serviced prior to any extended driving to ensure safety and reliability (due to our filming schedule, we cannot perform any additional work on this car or build it for you.
