You are viewingmy 1968 Imperial Crown Coupe, quipped with a 440 cubic in. V8 engine, utomatic transmission, lack leather interior and power everything. The Crown Coupe -- an extremely rare car, s only 2,656 were made --was Chrysler Corporation's flagship luxury coupe in 1968 and was aworthy competitor of the Cadillac Eldorado and theLincoln Mark Seriesfor the upper echelon of the American car market. This particular example ispresented with a glassy gold finish and a black vinyl top, veryelegant combination that exudes the class and style that buyerswith a certain discriminating taste were looking for in '68.And it stillhits the mark. On a long drive this summer from my home in Clinton, Y through Utica andnorth toward Watertown, witnessed the effectfirsthand. The car garnered many waves and smiles, nd I think most people were pleasantly surprised by a car that they couldn't readily identify. With such incredibly low production numbers, he chances of seeingone in its natural habitat are very slim. I think this gives everyone a real thrill.
TheCrown Coupe is a real pleasure to drive, t fires up eagerly and issilky smooth rolling down the highway. Thelegendary 440 cubic inch engine, ne of the great motors of all time and probably second only to the "hemi"s inthe Chrysler arsenal, s the perfect match to this big touring coupe. Itcruises along effortlessly and providesa sensation of limitless torque that is an absolute joy to experience.Sitting in the leather bucket driver's seat looking over the beautiful dash and that long hood, ts easy to be transported back to the late '60's whenstyle and masculinity were at apinnacle, hen men dressed well, orked hard and made America the greatest country in the world. And they drove cars that are stillseen as the benchmark of style and craftsmanship even today.
I have owned and collected classic cars for the last 26 years, eginning with the 1969 Dodge Charger I bought when I was sixteen, nd which I still own today. I still own my 2nd car as well, 1983 Pontiac Trans Am, hich I drove from my senior year in high school through to my second year of graduate school in the department of English at the University of Central Florida in Winter Park, L. So my passion for classic cars -- and especially Mopars -- has been a lifelong pursuit and is about the most fun I can imagine having. I am an Oxford-educated motorhead that's been car crazy since bell bottoms were in style the first time around. And because I love to find, wn, rive and collect all kinds of classic cars, here comes a point when I have to sell a few of them to keep my collection manageable, r else they all don't get exercised like they should. This is one of those times. My collection has expanded to about17 cars, hen really, f I am totally honest with myself, should get it down to about twelve so that I have the time to drive and enjoy them all. I am a firm believer that cars should and need to be driven. And when I can't drive them all enough, go through the painful process of letting a few of them go on to new owners that will hopefully get out there and drive them more than I have time to.Before its all said and done, here will be about seven up and available.
This Imperial has been a real pleasure to own and while it isn't perfect, t is a wonderful example of maybe the lowest production luxury coupe every produced by the big three automakers. It is ready to be driven and enjoyed, nd any improvements can be made whilestill being able to take it out for a Sunday drive. The car is equippedwith A/C,which isn't working at the moment. That's one of those itemsyou could address as you see fit. Here in New York,it just isn't thatbig of a deal. I have the original Imperial air cleaner and many otheroriginal parts. I was also able to locate two build sheets;Iremoved oneand left the other in the car where it was placed when it was built more than 40 years ago. I've includedvideos of both build sheet locations, lus a walk-around of the carand many other photos at the links below.Otherwise, lease let me know if you have any questions and of course you are more than welcome to come and view the car in person. I think you'll be pleased you did. Please keep in mind, f I receive a reasonable cash or trade offer I reserve the right to end the auction early.
