Description

Up for sale is a project Citroen DS wagon. Officially she is an ID21FH. She starts runs and stops very nicely but she needs work. These wagons are a bit rarer than the sedans and are prodigious haulers... they can swallow huge amounts into the back of that flat floor.Previous owner had her about 20 years. He bought her from Donn Garriott who is a well known citroen mechanic in Nor Cal (she was Donn's daily driver for years). I took the car back to Donn to have him bring her back to life. (She had set for a few years PO thought the hydraulic pump and carb were dead pump was fine carb needed a little work)This ID21 is a citromatic model (semiautomatic gearbox for those unfamiliar with the terminology). She is a US model but has had front headlights and front marker lights converted to euro spec. Also has AC-specific front bumpers (see vents in photos car does not have AC now nor did it when new... I've been told Citroen put these bumpers on certain models regardless)• Euro turning headlights• Euro front marker lights (just below hgeadlights... on US models this is just a blanking plate)• AC-spec front bumpers• Factory trailer hitchShe starts easily. Strong hydraulics (all rejuvenated spheres and yes LHM fluid). Car stays up for quite some time once you shut it off. Engine was rebuilt while in possession of the last owner. Done by a citroen shop (in Oakland CA) that had a good AND bad rep. Compression is strong and even across all four. We do see some oil in the coolant. She may have a leaking head gasket? I've only driven her about 150 miles so have not had miles to see if the condition worsens. I have not flushed the coolant but car runs at correct temperature on hot days and does not loose coolant. Needs some front suspension work (lower ball joints). Transmission shifts smooth. Most of the electrical items work (gauges and lights). May have a ground problem somewhere as I have had her act like she has a dead battery on hot restarts. Once she cools off she starts fine. Or with jumper cables she starts. Battery and alternator are functioning correctly. As you can see in the photos there is some rust to be found... much of it typical for the wagons. I've taken many photos of the wagon. Study them carefully.Photos galore >>PHOTOS GALORE Comes with an extra front pass door and an extra rear hatch. Both are better than the items on the car. Air intake snorkel is not installed in car (see photos of snorkel) but does come with car. Spare tire is not shown but comes with car. Tire is shredded wheel is good.Needs tires. Needs interior work. Dash is good. Headliner has a couple of tears in it. Seats and door panels are so-so as you can see in photos. Driver's exterior door handle due for replacement but works (just barely). Interior handles are pitted (as is typical) though not as bad as many DS' I've seen.I think the original color was white. It was repainted green by Donn and then silver by last owner. That paint looks like battleship grey so I have named her the Battleship Redoutable (which was the first all steel battleship in the world... sailed by France of course)Car is located in Sacramento CA. She's drivable but I wouldn't attempt to drive her further than 20-50 miles without tires etc. Keep that in mind for pickup. The car MUST be picked up from Sacramento within 2 weeks of auction close unless otherwisearranged with me. You are welcome to come inspect and test drive this fine french hauler. Interested in shipping to europe? I have a good shipper nearby I can recommend (but the car will still need to be trucked to the shipper). Listed mileage is as shown on odometer actual mileage isundoubtedly higher. Why am I selling this fine french vehicle? She is car #6 in our household and a bit of a project as you can see. We decided that she is more project than I can take on at this time with my work schedule. Two videos to watch:
