Description

Reluctantly offering this exceptional 1972 Citroen SM 2.7 Litre Automatic. I have been a collector of Maserati GT cars since 1985 when I purchased a 1962 3500GT Vignale Cabriolet. Since 1985, have owned virtually every model of Maserati GT cars produced between 1958 and 1981. I am currently reducing my collection and have determined to part with this Citroen SM.

The Car:

I was told that this car was sold new to Lee Johnson of Bismark, D – passing to Ken and George Anderson in the late 1980’s. The car then was sold to Glen Eldred of Columbus, H in the early 2000’s who in turn sold it to Charles Gilliam who intended to provide the car to his 16 year old son as a daily driver. Realizing that this was not a car well suited to daily use by a teen driver, r. Gilliam sold the car to me in 2012. When I purchased the car, t was still wearing its original paint; having no rust or corrosion issues, he paint was just faded. The car had been in a hail storm at one time and the aluminum bonnet was pock-marked from the hail. The original upholstery was intact however; the leather was dry, rittle and had shrunken with time. The car ran and drove well though the exhaust system was shot.

Refurbishment:

Upon acquiring the car, y intent was to renew the car to be a reliable driver that was cosmetically renewed. My underlying objective was to have a car that I would have no hesitation in sending my daughter off on a cross country trip. Following is a summary of the work performed on the car:

  • Full Same-Color repaint including replacement of the hail damaged bonnet and misc. hail damaged stainless trim.

    • Glass and trim removed for proper workmanship

    • Painted in BMW Alpine White

      • Extremely close to original Citroen White

      • Easier to match if needed in the future

  • Polish and renew all stainless trim

  • Replace Windscreen (broken where rear-view mirror attaches)

  • Full interior replacement including:

    • all leather front and rear seats, /p>

    • full wool carpet, /p>

    • new headliner

    • new trunk lining

    • restored dash top

  • Comprehensive mechanical and suspension renewal:

    • Work performed by David Hume of Excelsior Motors

    • Complete Engine Rebuild

    • Upgraded Cylinder Heads with 3.0 Litre heads

    • Carburetors rebuilt

    • Ignition renewal

    • Starter and Alternator rebuilt

    • All belts, oses and filters replaced

    • All Cadmium Plated parts renewed

    • Firewall aluminum cleaned and brightened

    • Suspension hydraulics renewed

    • Electrical system renewed and upgraded as needed

    • New Stainless Steel Exhaust System

    • New Brake Pads

    • New Tires

  • Cosmetic Upgrades

    • Installed European Headlamp Covers

Current needs:

  • A/C is still on R-12 and the Freon level is low
    • Need to add more R-12 or convert system to R-134
