I found this rare 1972 Datsun 240Z here in the Dallas, exas area from a long-time owner/driver approximately 4 years ago. The car was stored for 10 years prior. In 2013 I got the car running and driving, ompleting a brake and suspension rebuilt. The original engine was smoking under acceleration so I decided it was time to do a standard rebuilt. I was running a Clifford intake and 4bbl. careburetor, utIhave the twin SU carburetors & intake setup and boxed it up along with the breather assembly. I unbolted the exhaust manifold. This was as far as I got to pulling the engine. This is a complete rolling project. I have a newborn baby so my focus is now elsewhere. This is a great project that will make a very nice early Z. Bid early and often, might add a buy it now price at any time.
This car displays one older repaint in red, ou can see much of the original Flame Orange paint throughout, specially in the interior. The fenders, ood, nd hatch line upstraight. The core support is also straight, ne of the things that drew me to this car for a complete restoration. I wanted a straight car that wasn't wrecked. I also have the clean and clear Texas title in my name.
The original VIN plate is in place along with the original engine & body identification plate and door plate, ll matching up, ncluding the original engine, ll points to consider in a premium restoration project. These Datsun 240Z cars are becoming increasingly hard to find in this restorable condition. It amazes me what some people start with when they do a restoration. This is a very solid base, ully rolling and steering.
The spare tire carrier is in excellent condition, isplaying original sheetmetal throughout. The shock towers show original vinyl. I ripped up the carpeting to expose the original sheetmetal.
The lower outer quarter panels are intact left and right. The original gas tank is intact. The exhaust system and muffler were recently replaced as well. The tail lights and tail light panel are intact as is the wiring.
The interior is complete. I pulled the carpeting up in the floorboards, evealing a solid original driver's floor pan and some holes in the passenger side front floor.
The dash is original with two cracks, epairable. All of the original gauges are intact and were functional when I was driving the car earlier this year with exceptional of the tachometer. The tachometer is in place, ut was not working.
The original door data plate is intact. The door undersides are in excellent condition.
The upholstery is in fair condition, eft and right seats. These are original bucket seats that had upholstery done in the 1990s. The center console is intact as well, long with the transmission and shifter assembly. I drove the car prior to the aforementioned work and confirmed the transmission to shift through reverse, st, nd and 3rd without slippage.
The undercarriage displays original flooring throughout. The frame rails are also original, lthough I cleaned them up and repainted them. I was going to eventually patch the passenger floor pan and then undercoat it all. The rocker panels are solid and original left and right. There is some minor rust on the lower front section of the driver's door, hotographed.
The original hood is straight and in great shape. The bumpers are also straight and usable as is or would look great with a professional re-chrome job, hat I planned to do.The rubber bumper pieces are intact throughout too. I was going to replace all of these pieces with NOS parts. They are still available.
I completely removed and rebuilt the front suspension. The A-arms were removed, edia blasted and refinished, ew bushings installed. The ball joints have been replaced. The sway bar was removed, efinished and new bushings installed. The steering rack was removed, leaned, nd reinstalled with new tie rod ends. The springs were removed and new struts installed left and right. I have a new set of shocks for the back that are included but have not been installed. The original steel is intact throughout the suspension mounting points, ommon rust areas on Z cars.
The battery tray is intact as well and solid.
The inner fenders and core support metal is straight left and right, o signs of collision or repair here.
I last drove this car last summer. The car drove straight down the road, ust smoked when it warmed up, eld good oil pressure and good power. The transmission and steering felt great. I did rebuild the front suspension so this was to be expected. Here are a host of additional photos of any imperfections I can find on the car. This is an overall solid 240Z and will make an excellent project. I am truly sad I am not able to finish it. This is my personal project car! Feel free to contact me with any questions. I am selling this Z with a LOW RESERVE PRICE, ON'T MISS OUT. - Sam
Although there is some isolated rust on the outer skin of the hatch area, hotographed above, his did not rust through as you can see. This is the original orange paint and metal around the tail light areas.
