Here is some history of the Datsun Roadster Model produced by NissanSome collectors argue that the 1967 models were the most desirable. This was due to a better-looking windshield. which was two inches lower then those on all later models. 1967 models were equipped with a “flat dash” as seen on previous models. 1967 was also the first and last year the 1600 and 2000 were not required to meet any DOT or EPA standards. Unlike the classic American cars of the era. which had serial number plates on heads. blocks. alternators. and other mechanical parts. documentation was unimportant to Nissan. who was still attempting to get a proper footing in the U. S. marketThe Fairlady Roadster traces its lineage back to the 1959 “S211″ and continued through 1970 with the “SPL311″ and “SRL311″ models. Some interesting info about the 67. 5 Fairlady… They were an intermediate model. built for only seven months. during some retooling and “major” changes to bring the Fairlady into compliance with ever-stricter Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Roughly 4300 were built. and were the last of the “low-windshield” cars. which are regarded as more attractive than the high-windshield cars built in 68-70. Adding to the 67. 5’s positive attributes is the wider flare fenders. which began with its release and continued into 1970. Weighing a little over 2000 lbs. with 96 hp from its 1600-cc engine. the Fairlady was quite a hotrod for its time. outperforming the MG and Sunbeam with ease. with typical Datsun reliability. Interestingly. the first Nissan Silvia coupe shared the SPL311’s platform and many chassis components are interchangeable.
