Description

Offered for sale is my beautiful neck snapping 68 Charger RT. It is just as originally spec'd in factory silver paint with the vinyl top delete (not orig paint job of course). While I am not sure of the actual production numbers of Chargers with Silver/no vinyl and black interior, i know it is rare because I have never seen one. This is by far the most neck turning car I have ever owned. As you can see by the pics, it is very clean and on top of that, it is a great driver. This car was restored by the previous owner but still retains many of the original parts. The mileage listed looks to accurate by theconditionof the car but I cannotguarantee that.It has a 440 that runs very strong. After I bought it, I replaced the poor performing edelbrock carb that was on it with anold-timer'ssuggestion of a NOS Thermoquad which came stock in the mid seventies. He said it would wake it up and hewasn'tkidding! The transmission shifts nicely and the suspension is solid. It tracks nice and straight, brakes well and handles very nicely for a 68 charger as you will see on a test drive. This car is still as spec'd with manual brakes and steering. I did have a new exhaust system installed to let the motor flow a bit more as you can tell in theunder bodypic. This car sounds amazing. Speaking of sounds, I did install a tasteful sound system in the car. I left the stock radio in place because it looks fantastic and put a head unit in the glove box which can be controlled by your smartphone. I installed some clean JL speakers in the doors and package tray that are hardly noticeable and a small amp and sub in the trunk. The amp and sub are tucked close to the rear seat so they are hardly visible and do not cut into your trunk space. The system sounds very good. I also installed a new alternator, starter and battery.
There are a few items that do not work that i did not get around to fixing because they were minor. The tach doesnt spin up, the high beams to not turn on (but the headlights work and rotate nicely!) and the heater does not work very well. I am in the middle of chroming a new custom console cover that will have a pocket for your iphone and a single cup holder which will work fantastic for everyday use. I will supply that or a new stock repro unit with the car, whichever the buyer requests. I have driven this car quite a bit since I bought it. It is very dependable. I will be adding a few more pics and a video later this week so stay tuned...

I learned a bit more about the rarity of this car after listing it here. A fellow Ebayer ws kind enough to share this with me...
Apparently Silver is one of the only colors that production numbers were tracked in 68 because it was an extra cost option. According to a member of moparts.com in 2011, 6bblgt, only 708 Silver RT Chargers were made. Of that number only 16% were manual trans and 25% were vinyl delete. So, 16% of 708 is 113 cars that were manual and then if you take 25% of that for the Vinyl delete, it leaves only 28. Of the roughly 28 produced, how many are still around today??? Pretty Interesting. Of course I heard this from a friend who heard it from a friend so please do your own research.
