Description
This is an old car. What you see is what you get. My brother bought this car in 1998 and it has been stored since. The car sat on the side of Mom's house (in California) from 1998 until two months ago. At that time Mom wanted it out so I did what any good big brother would do and I bought the car from my brother with the intention of getting it running and selling it. I succeeded in that effort and it's now time to sell. The car has a 318 2bbl and a 904 trans. There are a few very small rust holes in the floor because the top is shredded and rain was sitting in it. It is very minor. The only other rust is in the lower rear quarters and a very small amount in the trunk none through. The car has factory Kelsey-Hayes front disc brakes all three of the rubber brake hoses are new the calipers are remanufactured units and the rear wheel cylinders are new. Most of the metal lines have been replaced as well. The car has an 8-3/4" rear axle not a Sure-Grip sorry. The electrical system hasn't been exercised in many years and not all of the lights and gauges are working now. I have driven the car up and down the street but not any real distance. It isn't registered but is on non-op with the CA DMV so registration will be clean and simple. During the storage of the car the engine had not been connected completely so I completely disassembled it and cleaned all of the components in a jet wash cabinet. The rings rod and main bearings were all replaced at this time as were the valve seals and freeze plugs. The engine runs well and you can hear it on www.youtube.com. Search for "MeatballErik" and witness it in all of its 318 cubic inch glory! You could put a 4 bbl. on it but let's face facts. We like these cars because they look and sound cool. They are only fast in our minds. It's 2015 and a new Camry will beat most musclecar's times from the 60's so go with the driveability of the 2 barrel and enjoy a bit better mileage. The transmission filter and gasket were changed (the transmission was clean fortunately with nice red fluid coming out and no evidence of any transmission problems. The power steering is functional. The radiator has a small seep at the top of the core when put under a 16 PSI pressure test. Belts and hoses are new. The exhaust is a brand-new 2" dual system with turbo mufflers. The seats are worn but original buckets. The console is factory the convertible rear door panels are in good condition (particularly considering their age with the plastic intact around the pinch weld area a the rear of the door. The chrome trim strip that is missing from the right panel is included and resides in the console at the moment. The car has a small amount of rust. I say that because I'm from California. If I was from the mid-West or the East Coast I'd probably call it a rust-free car but I know that isn't really the case. It is quite solid though. I captured all of the rust I could find in the pictures. The tires are 215/70-14 and were purchased new two months ago. The wheels are 14" small bolt pattern rallye wheels and the wheel studs are all right hand thread. The car will be on display at the Mopar Alley show on Sunday June 14 at DeAnza College in Cupertino CA in the for sale section. You are welcome to see it there or make other arrangements with me if you wish to preview it. As the car is not currently registered or insured I will only provide a quick ride at the show on the campus grounds. No self-driven test drives will be available. To address the inevitable question "Can I drive it home?" Well...if you are the kind of person that likes adventure then yes you can providing you pay me for it. You can do whatever you like. Will it make it to your house? That's another question entirely. If you can make it in the daylight hours and you like adventure I say go for it. I'm inclined to think you'd be fine but I'm basing that solely on my ownconfidence in my skills rather than any real data. If you need to drive it at night then you'll have a whole other world of questions to deal with. Right now the headlights aren't working so that would be a chore. However it's summertime so you'll get a lot of daylight hours. You need to sleep some time. The top is essentially not there. It looks as good as you would expect a 20+ year old neglected vinyl convertible top to look. It doesn't go up and down. It has holes and the plastic hydraulic lines are in pieces. But again it's summertime in California. I don't expect you'll encounter rain. Why not have an adventure?
