It's time to change around my small collection so I'm listing both of my Ferrari Mondials.
This one is a 1986 Ferrari Mondial 3.2 Coupe. From what I can tell, nly a total of twenty nine (29) 1986 coupes were imported into North America. That makes this one a rare car.
NOW..READ THIS: The car side swiped a guard rail 20 years ago. At that point it was issued a rebuilt title. Unfortunately for me, he seller did not disclose this when I bought the car and I (being the genius that I am) did not run a Carfax assumingthat a car this old would not be listed in Carfax...Wrong! Carfax shows this bit of history and it was not revealed to me until much later. The car was issued a clear title at some point in the past and is clear now. Oh well, uch is life.
If you are still reading I'm not going to sell you on the virtues and vices of the Mondial. You can be an armchair expert and internet research these cars to your hearts content. I can tell you that the Mondial is starting to be appreciated for what it is...a fast, omfortable GT classFerrari with all the right pedigree (designed by Pininfarina and the same engine and transaxle as in the 328) that makes all the right Ferrari sounds. A Mondial looks much better in person. If you have never seen the car, on't pass judgment until you see one in the flesh.
My car is a 1986 modelwhich retains the relatively low maintenance costs of the 308/328 drivetrain, llowing major service items like timing belt and clutch replacement to be performed with the engine/transmissionstill in the car.The blue on blue is a beautiful combination.
The best way to get to know a car is to go over it section by section. Let's get started:
Exterior- The car has been repainted on the driver's side. The magnet test isn't really indicating any bondo. I don't have a paint meter so I'm not sure what it would show. The body work is in very good shape with minimal door dings. No rust, f course. All glass is good and has the Ferrari logo. The side strakes are unbroken and all badges/lenses are excellent. The paint is probably a 7 out of 10. One big chip (touched up) on the rear bumper. Otherwise, ar looks pretty darn good. The chassis is straight. The damage was to the driver's side body panels.
Interior -I had the interior redyed in 2013 and it still looks excellent. Very nice seats,No dash cracks, eather shrinkage, r any real wear. Thecarpet is a very rich navy blue.. The 5 speed shift gate gleams and all the gauges are clear. I think you will be pleased with the interior.
Tires/Brakes - The tires are Bridgestones installed in January 2014 at 54,306 miles. The wheels were refinished in the correct color and look great. The car stops and drivers perfect.
Drive Train - The major service was performed byKarl Troy of European Road and Racing in Charleston, C at the end of 2013.While being serviced a new water pump, ew injectors, tc. were installed. The total bill was $13,500. You won't need to do a major now for another 4 years or more. No smoke on startup or on overrun. The engine does not leak oil, he transmission shifts cleanly (balks going into second until the oil is warm...they all do. Just shift from 1st to 3rd until the oil warms up). Oil pressure while driving is around 80 psi...as it should be. Car never runs hot. The gauge barely moves above the first hash mark while driving and if stopped the dual cooling fans kick in around 190 and cool the engine quickly. No issues at all with this engine.
Electrical -All lights andgauges work, ll the switches work, nd the radio power antenna works. The only items not working are the sunroof and the console idiot lights. The console was deactivated by the PO because they are irritating. I agree and have not reconnected them. Everything is there is you want to connectit back up.The a/c works and wasconverted to 134a. The windows go up and down quickly and the door locks operate correctly (unlocking the driver's door unlocks both doors)
Books, ecords, nd Tools - The car has the jack. It does not have the tool kit or manuals. The only receipts I have are from my ownership.
Like my other Mondial, told Karl when he did the major that I wanted everything done so that I would be able to drive this car across the US. I feel very confident that I could do just that. The car is close to 30 years old and is sold with no warranty expressed or implied. However, f you want to fly in and drive back I wouldn't blame you!
