Description

We present for your consideration the one and only SN65 Mustang… With just a few updated and modifications… First off. for those of you who have never seen this car before. here is a little info on the car… What have we done? What we have done is taken a slightly different approach to “rest-o-moding”. The current trend is to update a classic car with as much of today’s technology as possible. After all. who doesn’t love driving a classic that has been updated with all the comforts and conveniences today’s technology can offer. For this particular project. we wanted to "transplant" every last mechanical and electrical function found in a 03 Cobra into a 1965 Mustang fastback. We feel. as many. that the 2003 Cobra Terminator was the most technologically advanced Mustang ever produced. And that the 1965 Mustang fastback is one of. if not the finest example of automotive styling ever to roll off a Michigan assembly line. So. in our way of thinking. transplanting the heart and soul of the 03 terminator into a 65 fastback would result in the ultimate Mustang. The Mustang of our dreams. But. how do you seamlessly integrate every last electrical and mechanical system. of two cars manufactured 40 years apart. into one? We gave a lot of consideration to a number of different plans. but ultimately. we decided that the best way solve these issues was to reverse the process as most tend to approach it. To achieve our goal we have taken a 03 Cobra and peeled away the uni-body structure all the way down to the inner rocker panels. leaving us with the SN95 lower uni-body structure. Then we took a 65 fastback and completely removed all the uni-body structure between the rocker panels and dropped the entire body over the remaining 03 Cobra uni-body. While this took a great deal of up front engineering and planning. the result is without-a-doubt breathtaking (at least from our perspective). In effect. we were able to engineer a totally unique uni-body and created a car that is a perfect mix of SVT Cobra and 65 fastback. Along with the looks comes a car that performs better than either of the donor cars ever could individually. Modifications to the chassis. suspension and drivetrain make for a formidable road car. One that out performs many of the exotic sports cars produced today. One of the benefits of the 65 profile is that stretching the SN95 chassis 7” not only improves the performance. but also vastly improves ride quality. To truly appreciate this project you really need to see it in person. Or better yet. you need to take it for a ride. Contact Julian's today and schedule a test drive. You will be happy you did. Most notable are the "Outstanding Engineered" award received at the Detroit Autorama. The "Best of Show" received at the World Ford Challenge. the Crystal "Year One" award received at the Year One Experience. the "Ford Muscle" award received at the Good Guy's Columbus show. Etc. Everywhere it is shown. it wins awards and draws a crowd. Below is a Power Point slide show. It is an electronic version of the Build Book we have on display with the car whenever we show it. If you want to know everything about the SN65 project. this is where to look. It details the entire project and includes key photos along with a detailed description of each. THE SN65 PROJECT. pps Note You must have PowerPoint or the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer installed on your computer to view the presentation. If you need additional information just Google “SN65 Mustang”. you will come up with numerous sites that were following the build. We drew a lot of attention and it seemed everybody we met had heard of the build and wanted to meet us and talk about the car. Also. V8TV filmed 3 episodes on the car that are still available on their site. After we completed the project. we have heard of several people who have attempted this type of project. but no one. as far as we know. have ever completed one. The engineering and effort required to complete a project of this nature is substantially greater than even your most radical custom car build. And. if you make just one misstep. you have just ruined two cars. The current modifications and updates So that brings up to today. The SN65 car has seen limited use over the past 8 years. Car shows and cruise nights mostly. with an occasional trip to the track. We were looking at ways to knock some pounds off the car so we decided to install some custom carbon fiber pieces. We did a lot of research but did not find any to our liking. Never ones to let a minor issue stop us. we decided to make our own. We produced a unique set of carbon fiber panels and designed them so that they would fit on any 65-66 chassis. These panels are not the typical carbon fiber panels available in the automotive aftermarket. They are carbon-fiber. Kevlar. honeycomb composite panels like those found on the finest exotic cars available today. They are fabricated to the highest standards at a specialty shop that produces F1 race cars. They are fabricated to mimic the stamped steel pieces from the original car in every way. If we did not tell you that they were carbon fiber. you wouldn’t know it. Even after we tell people. they still don’t believe us. For example. we were at a car show where the judge came up and looked over the car. After he was done. we asked him if he had any questions. He said “Nope. I got it covered”. I asked him what he thought of the doors to which he responded “What about the doors?” When I told him that they were carbon fiber. he said “No they aren’t! Are they?” He looked over the car and was surprised to hear that every bolt on panel was a custom carbon fiber piece. He said that he wouldn’t have had a clue if we hadn’t told him. He spent another half hour going over the car and left with a much greater appreciation for what we had attempted and accomplished. Well to make a long story short. we just couldn’t stop with the replacement of the panels alone. We had to disassemble the car and make a few structural and mechanical upgrades as well. We upgraded the interior and stereo as well as replacing the original cast iron power plant with an all aluminum unit. We just didn’t want to touch up the paint job so the decision was made to black out everything. And so the yellow SN65 is now back in black. What you can’t see in any of the photos is just how extraordinary the gaps and panel fitment truly are. Door gaps are held to an astounding + or - . 010”. All bodywork was fit and finished using laser measuring systems so that every line is square and perpendicular. On top of that. every bodyline has been brought to a razors edge. All reflections are flat and true and as you move around the car there is absolutely no rippling or distortion of the mirror like reflected image. What we are describing here is. in our humble opinion. the finest custom mustang ever built. It will outperform. in every way imaginable. most of the limited exotic specialty cars manufactured today. This car will be the prized possession of anyone lucky enough to own it. The fit and finish are flawless. The ride is firm. and it handles like a full on road race car. but is not harsh in any way. Acceleration is only limited by how fast you can shift and the top end has not been achieved as of yet (currently we have had the car up to 163 MPH on Road America). There are zero mechanical issues. just hop in turn the key and you are off. Whether you are cruising on your favorite scenic route or rush hour traffic. the car performs flawlessly. It runs on premium fuel (700 RWHP @ 17PSI boost) and gets over 20 MPG on the highway (as long as you don’t kick in the blower). and around town it is as mild mannered as the family grocery getter. But don’t be fooled. put your foot into it and you are in a different world. I can go on and on. but words are just words. Driving is what truly sets this car apart from all others… If you are looking for a car that provides a truly exhilarating driving experience. A car that features flawless fit and finish. A car that draws a crowd wherever it goes. A car where every component was hand selected because it was the finest available. If you are truly looking for the best of the best. Then you must give the SN65 your utmost consideration. With all that said. if you are serious about owning the best of the best. and have questions about the SN65 please call 630-762-0387.
