Just ten years after WWII ended Detroit head a full head of steam for all the new models that were coming out. 1955 through 1957 are considered the golden years for the fantastic new designs that were coming out of Detroit. In this regard Ford was no slouch. The top of the line car the 1955 Ford Fairlane Victoria had all the styling cues that came from dream cars/concept cars that preceded 1955. The fabulous Ford grille and iconic Ford chrome strip on the side that went from the front fenders all the way to the rear fenders made a two tone paint job on the car really stand out. Back up lights were hidden in the tail piece of the rear fenders and the dash board had a speedometer with a clear window in the back side of the canopy of the speedometer which was considered somewhat revolutionary in 1955. The Ford V8 engine when matched with a manual transmission was certainly no slouch and the smooth ride and soft rumble of the engine was luxury with style. The new wraparound windshield gave the Victoria a distinguishing look all its own. The rear quarter windows rolled all the way down out of sight and of course in the hardtop there was no center post and it really did give a feeling of openness to the entire car. The car that is featured in this eBay auction is the 1955 Ford 2-door dressed as a Fairlane Victoria. It has a V8 272 with 2 barrel carburetor with a manual transmission and is considered very rare in this model. This car also features an upgraded interior as you can see from the photos as well as some semi custom touches such as being “Nosed & Decked” (meaning that the chrome emblem on the hood and the trunk have been removed --- note the emblems and hood ornament are included with the sale of this car). The current owner bought the car as it is and has put very few miles on the car but has very much enjoyed showing it at car shows. The car was awarded several trophies at the various car shows. The seller is hoping that this great car will have a new owner that will maintain it as he has during his ownership of the car. There are many that consider 1955-1956-1957 being the Trifecta of the best years of Ford with the 1955 design being the favorite for most people. We here at MissChiTown feel the same way and just love all the chrome trim. wraparound windshield and the overall handsome design. For those that don’t know it the Ford automatic transmission was a 3-speed transmission but when the car is put into the drive position it starts off in second gear. not first and then goes to third. This gave the car an appearance of being somewhat sluggish. Having a three speed manual transmission really brings out the performance and the excitement in a 1955 Ford. Of course this car is equipped with the 3-speed manual transmission on the column…kind of gives you the somewhat feeling of a sports car more then a cruiser when you are shifting through the gears.
