IF YOU LOVE MODEL A FORDS AND SOMETHING DIFFERENT, his may be for you. Its a tractor built out of a 1931 Model A Ford. Some people called them Doodlebugs as well as several other names. Do some reserch on the internet and you can find lots of historyabout themand lots of pictures. From my reading many were built out of Model T and Model A Fords. Reason being was the cost of a tractor in the day. This is the best looking one I have seen from looking at lots of pictures. You could buy a kit from Sears or Montgomary Wards to built one.
OVER 50 PICTURES BELOW, ust scroll down to see them all.
HISTORY: I bought this one from the Ford Dealer 10 miles from me in Sweetwater, ennessee. They had it on display for about 5 years and decided it was timelet itgo. I am friends with the owner, big John" and this is what he told me. It was used to pull a reel type mover at the governors mansion in Atlanta for many years. A old Model A mechanic/restorer from Blue Ridge, eorgia restored it. John said he spent $1,800 just on engine parts.
WHAT IS THE ENGINE? I ran the numbers and its a 1931 engine. It runs good, hear no knocks or rattles other than normalModel A sounds. It was rebuilt by a old Model A mechanic from Blue Ridge, eorgia.
WHAT IS THE CHASSIS? Big John said it was a Model A Roadster body. The frame looks like a regular Model A and the rear end 1937 Ford truck.
WHAT IS THE TRANSMISSION? It has 2 transmissions. The front one is a regular Model A with 3 forward gears and 1 reverse. The back transmission has 4 forward gears and 1 reverse, ts suppose to be out of a 1937 Ford truck. Think about the combinations of gears you have with two transmissions. It will go super fast or super slow. Of course you can't go real fast with tractor tires. The truck transmission has what feels and sound like what we call bull dog, hat a low gear.
WHAT IS THE REAR-END? Its suppose to be a 1937 Ford truck.
WHAT ARE THE BRAKES? They are 1931 Model A car brakes on front and 1937 Ford truck brakes on the rear. They are mechanical, ut stop real good.
HOW IS THE STEERING? Good, he steering box does have some play.
HOW ARE THE TIRES? They are tractor tires and in new looking condition. The rears are by Goodyear and 11.2-24 in size.
DO THE LIGHTS WORK? Yes!
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THE TRACTOR? Washed, leaned carburator, ew starter switch, ew generator cutout and new battery.
HOW IS THE CHROME? New instrument bezel, he radiator shell is original and has some dings.
WHERE IS TRACTOR LOCATED? Athens, ennessee 37303.
