How many times have you been told the phrase “No Disappointments”, nd ultimately, ou were just that – totally and utterly disappointed?
Well – not this time. Sure – you've read this before, nd so have I. I can't tell you how many times I've driven, lown, ransported, nd so on to get my hands on a car that was pretty much a waste of my time and resources, eeding sorting out to the extreme, r simply misrepresented, n so many levels.
OK, K – I'll get to the point. I am one of the fullest disclosure, ever needs to lie persons you'll ever deal with. No stories, ther than the funny ones. That I've told before – just ask my wonderful wife.
What we have here is an honest to goodness, urely box-stock, s it came from the factory, xcept for a 1990's respray - 1968 Ford Thunderbird Landau 2 door “Sport” Coupe - well-optioned and as reliable as the day it was driven off the showroom floor.
Driven a mere 78,200 miles in 48 years – and it feels tight, traight and powerfully right.
Originally delivered on June 20th, 968 by Carl Beasley Ford in York, ennsylvania to a Mr. and Mrs. Sterling of Dover, a. - This car was garaged, ampered, nd driven occasionally, ntil the second owner bought it from him in 1991. I have original documentation supporting these facts. I am the third fortunate owner, r caretaker. Selling only due to relocation, nd downsizing. Simplifying my life.
Conservatively re-painted way way back in the early 90's with a single stage enamel, believe, n a Dove Grey non-metallic, ather than the original Slate Silver Metallic.
Options? How about the Bucket Seat / Console interior options with Red Vinyl (leather didn't exist in red ) to start off? A costly and rare option package – in beautiful condition. No rips, r cracks - no excuses. My wife loves the interior. “Time capsule” comes to mind. Everything works, eautifully. Not sure if ashtrays were ever used. You wont find much better. Period. I have beautiful matching red Tbird rubber floor mats that look awesome in the car, ractically unobtainable. I use cheaper carpeted ones for my driving.
Naturally – You have the big option – the 429/4V – 360hp/512 ft.lbs torque optional V8 – no waiting!! (60% value boost in price guides)
The “Thunderjet” Q-code engines were some of the best ever made by ford, onservatively rated for insurance purposes, nd would twist a mustang into a pretzel, ithout proper bracing. Plenty of get up and go for a 4260 lb. Car, speed C6 automatic, aturally. The engine runs perfectly, tarting well in cold weather and hot, reshly rebuilt Motorcraft 600 cfm 4 barrel carburetor. Very buttery smooth.
Next – you want the power 8 way drivers seat, ower windows, oor locks (vacuum), runk release (also vacuum), onvenience group with overhead console display, iber-optic tail light monitor, ir Conditioning, not automatic), pdated to 134A, f course, lows icy cold. Optional AM/FM stereo with rear speaker option only (weird, uh?) The speakers are newer, hankfully, nd the radio works great, onsidering it's age. This car has hydraulic 10 speed (yes, t's not a typo) wipers/washers that work flawlessly. Amazing. They run off the power steering!
The clock works, ccasionally – so I have a rebuilt one in hand, s new replacement. I also have boxes of very rare, OS parts like trunk lid seal (OEM), equential unit, omplete (with Buy it Now), ear window motor assembly (NOS), nd lots more stuff I'm probably forgetting, long with a treasure trove of magazines, ooks, rticles, nd all ORIGINAL PAPERWORK substantiating my claims of very low mileage, nd only two previous owners – I have the second owner's phone number, f you like. We're now pals, onding over this rare and amazing 5th generation Tbird.
The sequential turn signals work as they did in 1968. The hidden headlights have no leaks in the system, nd work flawlessly, lways impressing onlookers. No embarrassingly open headlamp doors on this car. All vacuum lines have been updated with better quality PVC versions. All meaning dependability, s in daily driver, f you please.
Exhaust is dual, f course, nd Stainless from the mufflers back, ustom resonators were installed a few years ago. Undercarriage is rust free, o rust or rot anywhere. Pics can be supplied... Coil springs are two years new also, hocks are brand new... suspension is tight, he tracks straight, nd stops beautifully. Tires have 70% tread left, ice.
The Space Command overhead display center works flawlessly, ut I cannot confirm the low fuel light works – I'd have to go too low on the fuel to confirm. Not my way, orry.
The trunk area is completely original, lean, ust free, nd the spare is NEW, ack and tools are exceptional.
Engine bay is nothing short of astounding, ith very little to be done, nless you're fussier than I am..
Now to the body, rame, ndercarriage, tc. Sometimes people say zero rust, nd we all know there's always some kind of rust, nless you just POR-15'd a freshly rotisseried body.
This car was Ziebarted (paperwork) when new, nd it has done a commendable job throughout the cars life, long with the fact the car was garaged it's entire existence. No accident evidence, umpers and chrome are very presentable, ery little damage anywhere.
IMHO, he car needs a stripping down to bare metal, riming, ase coat clear coat in order to win some trophies. So – it is a 10 footer, o me and to any onlooker. The paint from the 90's is doing all sorts of fading, icro-bubbling, nd just plain getting worn out and somewhat tired.
I had this beauty buffed out when I bought it a year ago, ut it doesn't hide the fact it needs a show worthy paint finish to be “show worthy.” Let's be realistic. The paint is 25 years old.
I think I've covered most everything, ut you're welcome to ask any reasonable questions, f course.
Please be respectful of this find, ecognize your good luck and the fact that I don't need to sell immediately. You could realistically drive this car anywhere, 've driven it to shows 165 miles away, ithout a miss ever.
I can anticipate a foreign (European perhaps) investor wanting this 5th generation Tbird to fill in a “gap” in their collection, o I will assist only in facilitating delivery, t buyer's expense, f course. After funds transfer.
So – If you're ready to be impressed by the build quality, he power, he way things still work (this car is silent on the highway), ow smooth she still is, nd how STRAIGHT as an arrow she is – happy bidding, nd best of luck. Thanks for reading my proclamation.
This car deserves your attention, nd I appreciate your time.
