Description

Clean Mustang fastbacks are getting scarce, and this 1965 2+2 shows you why. They look awesome, deliver a ton of performance, and, well, it's hard not to fall in love at first sight. There's a lot of history wrapped up in a sleek fastback with stripes down its back, and you'll love driving this car and the attention it gets.Bright Candyapple Red with white stripes stands out in a crowd, there's no doubt about that. Candyapple Red is also this car's original color, as denoted by the code T on the door tag. The stripes aren't totally correct unless you're driving a Shelby, but for pure eyeball appeal, it's hard to beat the racy look. Fortunately, if you're going to attract all that attention, it gets the rest of the stuff right, too. The sheetmetal is clean and straight, gaps are good, and this is one vintage Mustang that truly delivers on its looks. The paint has a great shine, not perfect but pretty nice despite having been refinished some years ago, and it still draws onlookers everywhere it goes. Regardless, you won't be afraid to drive it and you'll definitely be proud to be seen in it. The chrome is nicely done, too, including both bumpers and all the stainless trim, much of which has been replaced. If you want a classic early Mustang, they don't get much more classic than this. The interior is not quite stock but closely resembles what it says on the door tag, offering black bucket seats with pleated inserts. However, the inserts are grippy cloth, which is a lot more comfortable than the vinyl originals, and "2+2 Mustang" has been embroidered on the seat backs. The dash looks mostly original and still carries the 1965 wide-style speedometer, and it's joined by auxiliary gauges under the dash and a tachometer down on the transmission tunnel, just ahead of the Hurst 4-speed shifter. The original AM radio is gone, replaced by an AM/FM/CD head unit, although we suspect you'll enjoy the sound of the exhaust a little better. There are also fresh door panels, new carpets, and a correct plaid trunk mat along with a space-saver spare. The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8, and while the VIN calls for an A-code 289, nobody will ever know the difference. Upgrades are pretty extensive thanks to the booming 5.0 aftermarket, and the list includes Edelbrock aluminum heads, a polished Edelbrock intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carb, and an MSD ignition system with a billet distributor. A few chrome bits dress things up, and the engine looks pretty good in the satin black engine bay. A big aluminum radiator keeps it clean without effort and chrome export brace and Monte Carlo bar make a noticeable difference in the way it handles. Underneath it's not overly detailed but it is clean, offering a set of long-tube headers and a Flowmaster exhaust system (this Stang sounds great!), a new gas tank, and plenty of evidence of regular service make this a fastback you can buy with confidence. Classic Torque Thrust wheels are the ideal choice for early Mustangs, and these wear 205/55/16 front and 245/50/16 rear Michelin radials that look great inside the early Mustang fenders.Fully sorted, this V8 fastback is exactly what it appears and more, with subtle upgrades that improve the Mustang experience without changing it.
