Description

This auction is for a very unique restomod based on a 1957 Ford Skyliner AKA "Retractable". This car was extensively modified in 2011 and has since only been driven 1000 miles. The car originally came from Nevada and was for the most part untouched with very little body damage. It has since been completely renovated with an "on frame" restoration and full late model drivetrain. This is a one of a kind show car that will not disappoint. not only does it look spectacular but drives as good as it looks. The following is a description by category as to what has been done to the car. The owner has invested well over 90K in this project and is currently relocating out of the country and would like to sell the car rather than leave it sit. Chassis /suspension/ steering & brakes: The chassis is basically a stock. rust free straight chassis. all of which was carefully inspected for weakness. It was cleaned up. treated and painted. The suspension is all rebuilt stock with new bushings throughout. springs have been replaced as well as shocks. All steering linkage has been replaced as well. The steering has been upgraded to a late model fast ratio power steering box and rag joint. The car is equipped with power 4 wheel disc brakes. It drives. handles and stops like a late model car with no "funny " noises or uneasy feelings. Engine /transmission / rear end: The engine has been upgraded to a Ford 302 cubic inch motor that has been completely rebuilt. It is . 030" overbored (306 cubic inches) w/ Keith Black pistons . he rotating assembly was balanced. cam is CompCams 268H grind. The cylinder heads have been rebuilt with new valves and 3 angle job. It has an Edelbrock intake & 650 cfm carb. Ignition is equipped with a Pertronix conversion. The engine is just now broken in. runs very strong. o smoke. no noise and NO LEAKS. The cooling system has been upgraded with a HD aluminum radiator. custom fabricated aluminum shroud and a high flow waterpump. Car runs all day with AC on in Florida at 190*. Exhaust is FlowTech "shorty" headers . custom dual exhaust with MagnaFlow mufflers. Transmission is a Ford AOD automatic completely rebuilt with a mild shift kit . a Lokar detent cable and an external cooler. Driveshaft was custom fabricated and balanced. The original rear end was completely rebuilt and 3. 50 gear set was installed. no noises. no leaks. The complete drivetrain has just under 1000 miles on it at this point. The fuel tank and fuel sender have been serviced and in very good condition. no leaks. gauge is accurate. Accessories /electrical : Car is equipped with a new Classic Auto Air AC/ heat & defrost system that will freeze you out of the car. Car also has a tilt wheel column with the original steering wheel retrofitted to it. There is a custom center gauge & control panel off bottom of dash fitted with Autometer gauges and the Bluetooth stereo. The electrical system has been upgraded with a HO 1 wire GM alternator for reliability. The wiring has been all gone through with no draws or " funky" circuits. All lights are in good working order. Interior/ trunk area: Car was treated to a very intricate custom interior comprised of Ultra Leather vinyls and tweed. The cabin interior was followed throughout the trunk area so that when car is in " show mode" you can see the interior from front to rear. must see it to appreciate it. The dash was padded and wrapped as well. Paint & body: Car did not need a lot of body work. mainly dings & dents with some minor rust in lower quarter panels which was cut out and patch paneled with steel. The paint job is PPG base coat/ clear coat and was done in 2011 and still looks awesome. Top mechanism: This is a spectacle to see in motion! The top works flawlessly. it has been gone over and "tuned" by Tom Chitwood. All components have been tested and the top gets used everytime the car is out with no issues to date. This is what sets this car apart from any other convertible . again . this is a must see to appreciate! Chrome / trim & glass: Every piece of stainless trim has been restored. every piece of chrome has been replated. All of the glass has been replaced with tinted glass. there is a small fortune in cost in this area. The chrome bill alone was over $5000. 00. the glass was another $3500. 00 and then all the stainless ran another $2500. 00!
