Original Sales Invoice. Mustang T-5 Survivor! This is an extremely rare FORD T-5 Mustang! This historic automobile comes with it's original sales invoice. purchased by an American Military Veteran stationed in Germany in 1965. One of the rarest Mustangs of all. Approximately 400 1965 FORD T-5's were built. about 300 of which were sold to American Servicemen stationed in Germany 1965. According to the T-5 Registry. there are only approximately 125 of these special and ultra rare 1965 T-5's known to be in existence today. This Beauty is the #38 on the Ford T-5 Registry Site. She is 1 of 2 documented Rangoon Red with black standard interior. 6 cylinder. 3-speed manual transmission. T-5 Coupes. Making this T-5 pony even more rare is that fact that she is believed to have only 34. 67 original miles and her Interior and Drivetrain is all Original. Never any modification or serious rust issues. with the exception of a repaint that was done many years ago. this amazing coupe is all Original with the exception of normal maintenance items. Her motor. transmission. carburetor. and exhaust are all original and apparently have never been rebuilt. FORD T-5 HISTORY: T-5 was the original project name for the Mustang when it was still a concept on the drawing board in 1962. T-5 was used as the moniker for the Mustangs exported to Germany. In 1965 the name Mustang was legally owned and copyrighted in Germany by a Humbold-Klockner- Dautz. a West German manufacturer. When Ford wanted to sell their successful pony car in Germany with the name Mustang. H-K-D offered to rescind their copyright for a reported fee of $10. 00. 00. Rather than paying H-K-D. Ford chose to forfeit the Mustang name for the West German market and instead changed the name of these exports to Ford T-5s. The word "Mustang" had to be deleted in 8 places: the horn ring. gas cap. 2 fender emblems and all 4 hubcaps. The new hub caps had a plain black center. the standard steering wheel horn ring read "FORD". the fender emblems said T-5 and the locking gas cap lacked any identification. Ford designed new emblems for the front fender to designate the cars as T-5s. These emblems (C5ZZ-6325622A) are about 3/4 inches high and 4 inches long. They were also fitted with an extra heavy duty suspension. a larger stabilizer bar and a one piece export brace. All Ford T-5 parts have been obsolete for many years and are not available from Ford. Few American cars were sold to Europeans due to the high cost of fuel and difficulty in getting parts. They were considered by the European elite to be prestigious imported cars. As with the case of this T-5. most American cars in Europe were sold to American service personnel who were able to purchase new American cars via the military PX system and could buy fuel at greatly reduced cost at on-base stations. Virtually all of the T-5's that made it back to the U. S. were originally purchased by American servicemen and women. When their tour of duty was complete. the T-5s were returned to the U. S. as personal property compliments of Uncle Sam. VEHICLE HISTORY: Documentation shows that this T-5 was purchased by an airman in Berlin. Germany in 1965. In 1966 she was shipped back to the U. S. for the airman who was then stationed at Keesler A. F. B. in Biloxi. Mississippi. He traded her in at Donohoe Motors in Biloxi later that year. In June of 1966. she was purchased by a lady who passed away in 1987. The lady's son inherited this T-5 and less than a year later he sold it to another Mississippi man. This owner took exceptional care of this T-5 and won many car show trophies showing her. He was the owner for 26 years until he passed away in 2014. This T-5 is now locally owned by the sister of the previous owner. BODY: The body on this T-5 is solid. especially when considering its age. All of the glass and body panels on this T-5 are in great shape and original to the car. This T5 sits on her original wheels and also has her original T-5 hupcaps. ENGINE & MECHANICAL: Her Inline 6 cylinder is original to the car with its original paint still mostly intact. To my knowledge this engine has never been removed. She starts up quickly and smoothly. runs nicely. and her 3-Speed manual transmission shifts out cleanly. She has her original air cleaner housing and carburetor due to proper maintenance being a priority of the previous owners. On the ground. this T-5 handles better than your average 1965 Mustang. due to her heavy-duty suspension and larger stabilizer bars which were mandatory because of the lack of quality roads in most overseas countries. A larger one piece under hood "export brace". later used in GT-350's. was also installed on these cars underhood to stiffen the unibody package. INTERIOR: The Original Standard Black Vinyl Interior of the T-5 is in beautiful condition. Many of these early pony cars have plastic or vinyl that is cracking. dried out. ripped or has been replaced. You can see that care that was taken with this baby from day one. The dash has no cracks in it. the Package Tray is not peeling up in the corners. the headliner is still almost pristine. the carpet is fluffy. and the seats are in excellent shape with the one exception of the stitching on the top corner of the driver's side seat. Even the door panels are still in excellent condition. Remarkably. everything works on this T-5! The turn signals. headlights. tail lights. heater. windshield wipers. horn. even the Original AM radio still works. According to the First Mustang Club of Germany: - An anti-theft locking device on the steering column was required on cars sold to German civilians. - Sealed beam headlights. common in North America. were not legal in Germany. - The tail lamps were modified to German motor vehicle regulations. - In 1967 Parking lamps and turn indicators had to be different. - In 1967 High-beam indicators had to be blue instead of red. - In 1967 the handbrake cable routing was modified. - Some T-5s got metric speedometers. although many that returned to the United States with military personnel were converted to miles-per-hour. Some T-5s did not receive some of these minor modifications. if a good relationship existed between a dealer and German authorities. Ford built T-5s for export and not all of them returned. which makes them an unusual sight in the U. S. Have you always wanted a Special Mustang? Congratulations! This is your lucky day!
